Now is not the right time for electric supercars, says Lambo CTO

The fully electric Lamborghini will not have any sort of internal combustion simulation.

In a recent interview, Rouven Mohr, Chief Technical Officer, Lamborghini mentioned not to expect a fully electric supercar from the Italian brand anytime soon.

Mohr, stated, "At the moment, now, the time would not be right [for an EV], at least not in a super sports car. You have seen a lot of [electric] cars on the market that were not really successful."

That said, the brand is aware that it will eventually bring an electric supercar into its lineup. However, that EV needs to be true to the brand, offering visceral excitement rather than just horsepower or straight-line speed. He mentioned how the brand always seems to prioritise "unhinged hooliganism" over performance & Mohr confirmed that will remain the goal when Lamborghini moves to full electrification.

Mohr stated, "It’s clear that a full electric car from Lamborghini has to have this kind of excitement factor. It’s not only about maximum power, maximum acceleration. These are commodities." The CTO further added, "You can be sure when we bring the first electric Lamborghini we are not thinking to bring another standard electric car, one megawatt of power. It’s not like this. You need a differentiation."

Mohr also confirmed that the fully electric Lamborghini will not have any sort of internal combustion simulation. This includes engine noise of artificial gearshifts.
