Volkswagen would be launching the 8th generation Passat in India on October 10, 2017. Last month, VW announced that it has started the production of the new Passat at the company's Aurangabad facility.
The next-gen Passat is based on VW Group's MQB modular platform. The model was internationally revealed back in 2014. The earlier-gen Passat in India was discontinued around the same time. The Passat gets a new triple-slat grille, bumper and narrower headlamps with LEDs. At the rear there is a slimmer pair of LED tail lamps, new bumper and twin exhausts. The India-spec Passat is likely to get 17-inch alloy wheels.
On the inside, the Passat gets a redesigned dashboard with a continuous vent-like feature running along the length of the dashboard. The centre console houses a touchscreen infotainment system and the automatic climate control module. The car gets a three-spoke steering wheel and familiar twin-pod instrument cluster. The new Passat is expected to get features like park assist, automatic headlamps, rain sensing wipers, 360-degree camera, ABS and airbags.
It will likely be offered with a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine producing about 175 BHP. Expect the Passat to be offered with a 6-speed DSG transmission. Exact specifications and more details regarding the features would be revealed at the launch event in New Delhi.
The new Passat will rival the likes of Skoda Superb, Toyota Camry and Honda Accord in India.
