Mercedes-Benz has launched the GLS 350 d in India at a price of Rs. 80.40 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune). The GLS-Class is a replacement for the GL-Class. It sits at the top of the SUV model line-up of the company.
The GLS-Class gets new radiator grille and revised tail lights and headlamps. The roof rails, skid plates, beltline trim strip, luggage compartment handle and side sills get chrome detailing. The car runs on 20-inch, 10 spoke alloy wheels.
The interiors of the GLS-Class are similar to the current S-Class. The car has a boot space of 680 litres, which can be expanded to 2,300 litres by folding the seats down. The leather-wrapped steering wheel gets paddle shifters and heating function. The car offers Apple CarPlay smartphone connectivity as well.
Some of the other features include a panoramic sunroof, air suspension with adaptive dampening, 8-inch display for the infotainment system with a touchpad, leather upholstery, memory function for the driver and passenger seats, parking assist and 360 degree camera.
Coming to safety features, the standard car is equipped with brake assist, adaptive two-stage airbags for driver and front passenger, side bags for driver, front passenger and middle row seats, window bags across all three seat rows and three-point safety belts among other features.
The GLS 350 d is powered by a 3-litre, V6 diesel engine that produces 255 BHP @ 3,400 rpm and 620 Nm of torque @ 1,600-2,400 rpm. The engine is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission and has five drive modes - comfort, sport, slippery, individual and off-road. Mercedes-Benz claims that the car can accelerate to 100 kph from a standstill in 7.8 seconds.
The GLS 350 d is available in six colours - Citrine Brown Metallic, Designo Diamond White Bright, Cavansite Blue Metallic, Obsidian Black Metallic, Iridium Silver Metallic and Tenorite Grey Metallic.
Mercedes-Benz will build the GLS 350 d at its production facility in Chakan, Maharashtra.
