After releasing a video teaser a couple of days ago, Mercedes-Benz has revealed the AMG GT Roadster through a set of official images. The convertible iteration of the AMG GT sportscar is scheduled to debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show next month. It will be available in two versions - GT Roadster and GT C Roadster.
The convertible AMG GT gets a soft top roof that will be available in three colours - beige, black, and red. The roof can be operated electronically, even when the car is moving at speeds up to 50 km/h. It is not clear how much weight the soft top mechanism and structure strengthening adds to the Roadsters. Mercedes-Benz claims that the soft top supporting structure is made from lightweight material combining elements like magnesium, steel, and aluminum.
Powering both the convertibles is the same 4.0-litre, bi-turbo V8 engine that is used in the GT coupe. However, Mercedes engineers have fiddled with the power mill, and it now develops 469 BHP and 630 Nm of torque in the AMG GT Roadster, which is a jump of 13 BHP and 29 Nm from the coupe's power output figures. The car also boasts of a 0-100 km/h time of 4 seconds and a top speed of 303 km/h.
Meanwhile, the GT C Roadster develops 549 BHP and 680 Nm from the same 4.0-litre, V8 bi-turbo. The added power helps it to complete the 0-100 km/h sprint in 3.7 seconds, before reaching its top speed of 315 km/h.
