Maruti Suzuki has listed its upcoming hatchback crossover - the Ignis, on the Nexa website, under the 'coming soon' tagline. The company has also posted a short teaser video of the upcoming car. The website also has a registration form for customers who wish to know further details about the Ignis and be notified about the car's impending launch.
The Ignis will essentially be the replacement of the Maruti Ritz. It is expected to be slotted below the Maruti Swift in the automaker's portfolio. Maruti had displayed the Ignis as a production ready concept at the 2016 Auto Expo. The final production model is expected to retail majority of the design cues of the concept.
The Ignis gets a squared-off front fascia, with a vertical snout, boxy headlamp assemblies with U-shaped LED DRLs and a broad front grille. The side profile features beefed up wheel arches and an unconventionally thick C-pillar. The rear gets a bloated look, with a steeply raked windscreen and a boxy tail gate.
Technical details about the Ignis haven't surfaced yet, but it is expected to continue with the current crop of 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engines. A 5-speed manual is the standard gearbox, while a CVT automatic option will likely be offered with the petrol trim.
