Maruti to end production of BS-IV cars by December 2019

According to a media report, Maruti is planning to stop production of BS-IV compliant cars by December 2019. The company has said that only BS-VI compliant models will be built from January 2020 onwards. The government has mandated that only BS-VI compliant vehicles will be sold in India from April 1, 2020.

According to the chairman of Maruti Suzuki, the company will continue to produce select BS-IV models only if there is strong demand for a particular model. Without giving out any details, he said that a BS-VI version of one of its models will not be ready by December 2019.

BS-VI diesel models are expected to cost Rs. 2.5 lakh more than their BS-VI petrol versions. Also, the report suggests that BS-VI petrol vehicles will be able to use BS-IV fuel, but BS-VI diesel vehicles will be required to run the upgraded BS-VI fuel. Maruti also plans to introduce strong-hybrid systems on its BS-VI petrol cars by 2020.
