Life with my Drammer 935 yatch: Updating the Raymarine Lighthouse chart

I am already doing some planning on the various trips we want to do this year. The most important one is visiting Sail Amsterdam in August. I am really looking forward to that one.

BHPian Jeroen recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

Not much happening, yet, boat-wise!

Early in the year it's mostly a case of paying all your annual fees. E.g., membership of our marina and mooring fees, several fees for chart updates, fees for the radio license, and so on.

This will be the first time I will be updating my Raymarine Lighthouse charts. I was in some doubt. My Raymarine can handle Navionics charts as well. I have spoken to quite a number of Navionics users and I was impressed. I spoke to a knowledgeable guy at one of the many ship chandler I frequent. He showed me the difference and the latest Lighthouse update is supposed to be really good!

So I am doing the Lighthouse update. Which means pulling the micro-SD card from the plotter.

So I had to drive over to Strand Horst. I had not been to see Sirion till before Christmas. She still looks the same!

Pulling the Micro SD chart means pulling the panel with the plotter in it. The Raymarine geniuses in charge of product design stuck the Micro SD card slot at the back!

Took it home with me plugged it into my Macbook and ran the update. That went smoothly. Now I need to see if it all works of course, when I plug it back in. I might have to update the operating system on the Plotter as well. That is done with the plotter installed and via the WiFi. Not sure why Raymarine did not think it through and allow for a chart update via Plotter with everything in place.

In the next couple of weeks, I will be doing the teak oiling and polishing/waxing of Sirion. I figure 2-4 days work.

Our marina WSV de Gors received some excellent news a couple of days ago. The Dutch watersports magazine, motorboot, does a big survey every year on the state of Marinaas. De Gors got the most reviews (64) and is shown on the cover of their latest issue.

Even more importantly, we got a rating of 9,2 (out of 10). This puts us into the very exclusive zone of the only 4 marinas in the Netherlands that score above 9.0!

I had enrolled in a course, "Night Sailing" which was supposed to take place tonight. They contacted me last night, the engine of the yacht they will be using broke down. So it was postponed.

I have another interesting event later this week though. Recently the largest sea lock in the world opened in IJmuiden, the entrance to the North Sea Channel and Amsterdam harbour. On Friday afternoon I am getting a tour!! Should be interesting.
