Mumbai-born Jehan Daruvala has entered the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. The 18 year old driver has been signed by Carlin Motorsports for the 2017 season.
This marks a major step up for Jehan, who has been competing in the Formula Renault championship for the last two seasons. During this stint, he secured 11 podium finishes across various circuits in Europe. Post this year's Formula Renault season, Jehan went for testing rounds with several F3 teams, and was eventually signed by Carlin after consistently being one of the fastest drivers in their tests.
The Formula 3 European championship will consist of 30 races, spread over a period of 10 weekends. This will provide Jehan a racing experience around some of the iconic Formula 1 circuits. The F3 calendar also includes races on two street circuits - Pau and Norisring.
Formula 3 is considered as a major stepping stone for Formula 1, the pinnacle of motor racing. Various F1 drivers, including Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg, Max Verstappen, Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher, have been a part of Formula 3, before making it to the big stage. Rosberg, Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo, Daniil Kvyat and India's first F1 driver - Narain Karthikeyan, have raced with Carlin Motorsports during their respective Formula 3 careers.
Jehan was recently inducted into the British Racing Drivers' Club. He will also be competing in the 2017 Toyota Racing Series in New Zealand, prior to his Formula 3 debut.
