Volkswagen India is all set to launch a new variant of the Polo hatchback in the form of the Cross Polo. IndianAutosBlog is carrying a rash of images and details of the 2013 Volkswagen Cross Polo. From the revealed details, it is clear that the Cross Polo is merely a cosmetic variant of the hatchback.
Apart from the addition of a body kit that makes the Polo look more butch, changes to the hatchback have been limited to say the least. For starters, even the ground clearance of the Cross Polo, at 168mm, is carried over from the regular hatchback variant of the car.
The body kit includes a new front grille, revised front and rear bumpers, Cross Polo badging, black cladding for wheel wells and the flanks, roof rails, revised design for alloy wheels, a satin finish for the wing mirror housings and "Titanium Black" upholstery for the seats.
The addition of the body kit to the Polo has increased the dimensions of the Cross Polo (the car is 18 mm longer, 21 mm taller and 14 mm wider). However, the increase in dimensions is only on the exteriors and this means that the car's insides don't see any extra space being liberated.
The Cross Polo rides on 15 inch alloy wheels shod with 185/60 section tyres, and the car will be available in three colours: Red, Silver and Black. The Cross Polo is said to be available with a single engine option, with the 1.2 liter TDI turbo diesel motor being the standard motor on offer.
This turbo diesel engine is a three cylinder unit that outputs 75 Bhp of peak power and 180 Nm of peak torque. This engine is mated to a five speed manual gearbox. The Cross Polo will be positioned above the diesel powered Highline variant of the car, at a price that's 65,000 rupees higher than that of the diesel Highline variant. With the Cross Polo already reaching showrooms and dealer stockyards, the launch of the car seems imminent.
