Royal Enfield will be hosting a press conference on February 2, 2016, where the Himalayan adventure tourer is expected to make its debut. Ahead of the conference, Royal Enfield has added the Himalayan to its official website (link) and has started promoting the motorcycle through its social media channels. A few key details of the highly-anticipated motorcycle have emerged as well.
The Himalayan's chassis and suspension has been designed by Harris Performance, while Royal Enfield's new overhead cam unit with an oil-cooler has been labelled the LS400 engine, which is believed to displace around 400-410cc. As per an official video, preliminary assessments rate the power output at 25 BHP, though it remains to be seen what the final output figures will be.
The engine is said to have been calibrated for endurance and longevity, with a 10,000 km service interval. The spark plugs too, need to be changed every 25,000 km. The Himalayan will make the use of a 21-inch front wheel, and the seat height and ground clearance have been set while keeping the average Indian rider in mind. Inputs have been taken from none other than CS Santosh, during the developmental process, in order to improve its off-road credentials.
Further details were revealed by Royal Enfield's CEO, Siddhartha Lal, through a personal blog post on the Times of India. An interesting feature is the bike's ability to run, even if the battery is dead (or taken out altogether). The Himalayan will be offered with hard and soft pannier options at the rear, with jerry can mounts at the front for water and fuel. The bike will also come with a 15L fuel tank capacity.
More details are expected to be revealed in the run up to the Himalayan's debut.
