GM CEO Mary Barra visits India; GMI rolls out 1st export car

Mary Barra, the CEO of American auto major, General Motors (GM) visited India from September 9-11. During this period, accompanied by Tim Solso - non-executive Chairman of GM, Stefan Jacoby - Executive Vice-President and President of GM International, Chuck Stevens - GM Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer and Arvind Saxena - GM India President and Managing Director, she visited GM facilities and met the company's employees, suppliers and government leaders.

The CEO paid a visit to the company's Talegaon manufacturing facility in Pune on Wednesday, where she participated in the celebration of the production of the first GM India vehicle for export. GM India had disclosed earlier this year that it will start exporting vehicles in the second half of the year starting with the Chevrolet Beat. The first market for the company's export cars will be Chile. (Link)

Mary Barra met GM India's top suppliers in Pune, to discuss opportunities for global sourcing and improved partnerships as GM continues to localize its supply base and make greater use of products manufactured in India. The GM leadership team also visited Chevrolet dealerships. On Thursday, the CEO met the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.

Stefan Jacoby will address the annual convention of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers in New Delhi on Friday. He is expected to talk on the positive economic impact of the automotive industry and its importance for markets such as India.
