BMW launches new online museum for all its past models

There are details on 424 BMW models available on the site.

BMW has just released a massive digital archive of all its models online. This archive has comprehensive overviews, history, and details of all BMW models dating back to 1928.

There are details on 424 BMW models available on the site. This includes all series vehicles from the BMW 3/15 hp model to the BMW 3 Series (E46), including the BMW Z4 (E85/E86). The archive spans a total period of 80 years (1928 to 2008).

The collection also has current photos from the BMW Group Classic vehicle collection and the historic BMW media archive. 614 data sets and 524 images were processed for this purpose. More cars can be added as they age, or as information and data is sourced.

Enthusiasts can filter through the museum-esque site by decade, body style, and nameplate making it easy to locate details of the car you are interested in. What’s more, you also get access to brochures, workshop literature, onboard literature and specialist books through the newly revised 2024 BMW Group Classic Online Archive.

Katrin Gfrörer, Head of BMW Group Archives and Historic Vehicle Collection said, “By making our complete historical model overviews available online, we meet a high external demand for historical product information that has existed for many years and maximizes customer satisfaction with another digital tool. In addition, most of the database in our online archive is publicly available on the BMW Group Archive website and can be used for information and research purposes. These measures impressively underline BMW Group Classic's digitization strategy."

The BMW Group had earlier released similar sites for the Mini and Motorrad brands in 2021.
