A BMW Motorrad dealer in Pune is charging around Rs. 15,000 as handling charges for the G 310 GS motorbike.
According to the invoice, the dealer quoted a price of Rs. 68,430 for RTO charges, while the actual RTO charges stood at Rs. 52,730. The invoice also states that the RTO charges include handling and facilitation charges. When contacted, the dealer said that the extra charge was for shipping the bike from the factory and storing it in the warehouse. They insisted that the bike would not be delivered until the extra sum was paid.
When BMW Motorrad India and BMW Motorrad Germany were contacted by the customer, they provided no help and said that the issue was between the dealer and the customer. The dealer even offered to cancel the booking and refund the entire amount to the customer. It is reported that other BMW Motorrad dealers are also charging their customers an additional handling charge.
It is illegal for the dealers to collect handling charges from the customer.
