ASEAN NCAP: ESC-equipped Toyota Innova scores 5-stars

Check out Team-BHP's detailed coverage of the Innova Crysta here.

ASEAN NCAP has published the crash test results of the all-new Toyota Innova (Innova Crysta in India). The tests have shown that the MPV scores the full 5-stars when equipped with ESC.

The model tested was powered by a 2.0L petrol engine and tipped the scales at 1,698 kg. The car scored 14.10 points for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), but an ASEAN NCAP prerequisite for a 5-star rating is the presence of Electronic Stability Control (ESC). Only variants with ESC are eligible for a 5-star AOP and those without the feature received a 4-star rating.

In the Child Occupant Protection (COP) test, the Innova achieved 76% compliance, putting it within the 4-star category rating. The model tested had anti-lock brakes and a seatbelt reminder (SBR) for the driver and front passenger. While ESC is optional on the base variant, the higher variants get it as standard. ISOFIX and top tether come as standard in all of the Innova’s variants.

It remains to be seen what features the India-spec Innova Crysta is equipped with. The car displayed at the 2016 Auto Expo came equipped with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, along with pre-tensioner and force limiter equipped front seatbelts. The Innova Crysta will be sold with 2.4L & 2.8L diesel engines. The latter will be available with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Toyota will also be offering the Crysta with a 2.0L petrol engine with the model's launch expected before May, 2016.
