Toyota has taken the wraps off the all-new Century SUV.
This is the first time in the company's history, that the 'Century' nameplate has been used on a SUV. The new Century SUV will be offered alongside the Century sedan, sold only in Japan. The SUV though, could be a global model.
The Toyota Century SUV is the brand's latest flagship luxury offering. It measures 5,205 mm in length, 1,990 mm in width, 1,805 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,950 mm. In terms of design, the Century SUV features an upright and boxy styling with rounded-off edges. The headlamps on the SUV are similar to that on the sedan, replete with LED elements, while the front grille has the "Pheonix emblem" at the centre. The Century SUV comes with standard 20-inch wheels with the option to choose up to 22-inch alloys. The rear doors can either open sideways or customers can also choose to have sliding doors like that on an MPV. Like the sedan, Toyota will offer the Century SUV with a two-tone paint scheme as well.
Inside, the Toyota Century SUV comes with a 4-seater configuration as standard. It gets powered side steps on each side, enabling better ingress and egress. The rear seats are electronically adjustable and can fold fully flat, which, according to Toyota, is "a world's first". The rear also comes with rotating picnic tables, two 11.6-inch TVs, detachable 5.5-inch touchscreen control panels and even a refrigerator.
At the front, the Toyota Century SUV gets two 12.3-inch displays for the digital instrument cluster and the central touchscreen infotainment, a unique multifunction steering wheel borrowed from the Century sedan, an 18-speaker sound system, wireless chargers, digital rear-view mirrors and plenty of other features.
Powering the Toyota Century SUV is a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine with a plug-in hybrid setup. The powertrain produces 406 BHP and Toyota even claims an all-electric range of 69 km. The SUV comes with 3 standard driving modes: Normal, Eco and sport, along with a special mode called "Rear Comfort", which distributes driving and braking force in such a way as not to disturb the rear passengers. The SUV also gets four-wheel steering as standard.
