2016 Toyota Fortuner launched at Rs. 25.92 lakh

Toyota has launched the second-gen, 2016 Fortuner in India with both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol range starts at Rs. 25.92 lakh and goes on to Rs. 27.61 lakh. The entry-level diesel model is priced at Rs. 27.52 lakh, while the top-end diesel variant costs Rs. 31.12 lakh. (All prices ex-showroom Delhi)

The second-gen Fortuner is built on Toyota's New Global Architecture (TNGA). It gets a slightly urban design language. The front fascia features sleek, swept-back headlamp assemblies that house projectors and LED DRLs. The front grille gets chrome treatment, while some more chrome is added around the fog lamp housing. The tall bonnet shut line, high ground clearance, and flared wheel arches add SUV characteristics to the Fortuner's look. The rear gets LED taillamps. The two-wheel-drive variants come with 17-inch alloys, while the all-wheel drive models employ larger 18-inch wheels.

The interior gets an all-new dashboard layout. Features on offer include automatic headlamps, a powered tailgate, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, power adjustable driver seat, ambient lighting and automatic climate control. Infotainment duties are handled by a 7.0-inch touchscreen system that also supports navigation.

In the safety department, the new Fortuner gets 7 airbags, ABS, EBD, Vehicle Stability Control, Hill Hold Assist, Hill Descent Control, and Cruise Control.

The 2016 Fortuner is offered with two engine options - one petrol and the other diesel. The 2.8-litre diesel unit develops 175 BHP and 420Nm of torque on the manual and 450Nm on the automatic variants. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. The diesel engine can be opted in 2WD as well as 4WD system. The petrol variants get a 2.7-litre mill that generates 164 BHP and 245 Nm of torque. It can be opted with a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The petrol Fortuner is only available with the 2WD system.

Toyota India will start delivering the 2016 Fortuner from today. It will compete against the Ford Endeavour, Chevrolet Trailblazer, and the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.
