Why I sold my 58,000 km done Chevrolet Beat for Rs 82,000

Technically, the issues were fixable and some were just routine expenses but it didn't make sense for me to spend big bucks on the car.

BHPian Mortis recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Car was at 58000km and sold for Rs 82k.

List of issues and expenditures that would be needed

  • Mystery water leak: Last monsoon water started getting into the car. Absolutely could not find the entry point. All seats and carpets kept getting damp (but not wet) and were covered in mold so had to get rid of it before the current rainy season.
  • Replaced all 4 wheels and tyres. The rims had rusted internally and needed to be changed. At least 40k for both
  • Painting of various panels and rust in the engine bay. Another 20-40k
  • MID screen backlight failure and outer screen layer failure. Needed replacement
  • Steering rack replacement along with some other suspension work
  •  Battery
  • Full exhaust including cat con needed replacement
  • AC compressor was on its way out plus a minor leak in the system.
  • O2 sensors were shot plus another engine sensor (possibly TPS) was making the rpm shoot up randomly and unpredictably.
  • Additional interior wear and tear was making me sad while cleaning it.

So yeah. Technically it was fixable and some were routine expenses but it didn't make sense to me to spend 1-1.5 L on it especially when it was 13 years old and not getting enough use. Plus the itch to upgrade and get an automatic was sorely needed and I don't have an extra parking slot for a third car.
