Toyota India agrees to lift lockout on March 24

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has agreed to lift the lockout at its two manufacturing facilities located at Bidadi, near Bangalore, Karnataka. Operations at the plants are set to restart on Monday, March 24.

Toyota had decided to keep its plants shut starting March 16 following failure of talks between the management and labour union over wage negotiations. The company also claimed that that a section of workers, instigated by the union had deliberately stopped the production line and threatened supervisors, which has resulted in disruption of the manufacturing process, forcing it to declare a lockout to ensure the safety of its employees.

On Thursday, Toyota issued a statement saying that the decision to lift the lockout was being taken in the interest of majority of law-abiding team members. Workers could resume work from March 24 after signing an undertaking on good conduct.

The union says that the wage dispute continues. The union also says that it has turned down the proposal of the management for workers to sign the undertaking.
