Rumour: Toyota Vios to be launched in mid-2018

The Toyota Vios is expected to be showcased at the upcoming Auto Expo 2018. A media report suggests that the Indian launch would be in mid-2018. The Toyota Vios is currently on sale in the South East Asian market. The model on sale in Thailand is slightly smaller in proportions as compared to the Honda City, but is wider than the Etios. It measures 4,420 mm in overall length, 1,700 mm in width and 1,475 mm in height. The car has a wheelbase of 2,550 mm and a 42-litre fuel tank.

The car which is on sale in Thailand has a front end featuring a V-shaped grille and a trapezoidal intake in the bumper. It also gets projector headlights with integrated LED DRLs. The rear end features wrap around tail lights with a chrome garnish running along the length of the boot lid. Inside, the Vios comes with a dual-tone dashboard with a centrally mounted touchscreen infotainment system. It gets a three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel and multi-coloured, 3-pod instrument cluster. The automatic climate control comes with an LCD read-out.

In Thailand, the Vios is offered with a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 106 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 140 Nm of torque @ 4,200 rpm. 4 variants are on offer, all of which get a 7-speed CVT with sequential shift. It has been reported that the same transmission will be available on the India-spec Vios. A diesel version along with a TRD Sportivo variant might be introduced later.

Toyota has been testing the Vios sedan on Indian roads since 2015. A completely undisguised test car which was reportedly imported from Thailand was spotted in Lonavala, Maharashtra in October 2016. When launched, the Toyota Vios will compete against the Honda City and Hyundai Verna in the C2 segment.
