Rumour: Bajaj likely to acquire Ducati

According to media reports, Bajaj Auto is one of the Indian companies currently in the race to acquire Ducati from the Volkswagen Group.

Rajiv Bajaj - Managing Director of Bajaj Auto told shareholders that the company was close to finalizing a "new alliance" and that an official statement would be made in the next two weeks. While he did not hint at any specific brand in his statement, the company has reportedly been in talks with Audi - the current owner of Ducati, for at least a month now.

At present, Bajaj has a 48 percent stake in KTM, which in turn, acquired Swedish brand Husqvarna from BMW. The company also has an alliance with Kawasaki and it seems like they're about to add another brand to their portfolio.

Meanwhile, other Indian two-wheeler manufacturers have also shown interest in acquiring Ducati. Hero MotoCorp and Royal Enfield are rumoured to have bid to acquire the Italian company.
