Motor Vehicle Insurance data is now available online

The Insurance Information Bureau (IIB) has digitalised records for vehicle insurance online since April 1, 2010. In the event of an accident, or in case the vehicle owner wants to obtain information about his car's insurance, all he has to do is enter the necessary details on a simple form provided on IIB's website. A text message is sent to customer's phone almost immediately. The same information is sent to the email address provided by the customer. A maximum of three searches can be performed for a given mobile number and email.

The IIB was formed in in October 2009 via an executive order of the chairman of Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) of India. IIB holds a repository of insurance information for life insurance, motor insurance, health insurance, etc.
