Mahindra to launch 2 SUVs, 1 LCV next year

Mahindra has revealed that it plans to launch three new vehicles next year. Two of these vehicles will be sub-4 meter SUVs and one will be a LCV.

Pawan Goenka, the company's Executive Director told PTI, "We were slow on launches in 2013 and 2014. Now we are back with new launches. In 2015, we will launch two sub-4 meter compact SUVs and one light commercial vehicle. All the three would come on completely new platforms."

The first of the two compact SUVs is likely to be the model codenamed S101, which is likely to have a compact, car-like appearance and will be pitted as an alternative to premium hatchbacks. Going be some of the spy images, the car appears to have two passenger seats at the front giving it a 3+3 seating configuration. Mahindra is believed to be working with its Korean subsidiary SsangYong to develop a 1.2-litre petrol unit to power the car with.

The second SUV could be the next-generation Bolero, codenamed U301.The vehicle is likely to sport a hydroformed ladder-frame chassis. It is expected to rugged-looking and equipped with off-roading features.

The LCV that will be launched in 2015 is expected to be the P601 truck that has been spotted testing on various occasions. It is believed that the vehicle could be the new Maxximo which is Mahindra's rival for the Tata Ace. The P601 comes with a large cabin, basic controls, a dashboard-mounted gear lever and separate seats.
