Mahindra to invest Rs. 1000 crore to develop petrol engines

According to a media report, Mahindra is looking to invest Rs. 1,000 crore over a period of two to three years to develop petrol engines. The company is working with SsangYong Motor Company to jointly develop a 2.2-litre petrol engine, which is expected to be used in the Scorpio and XUV500. Additionally, it is developing 1.5-litre & 1.6-litre engines in-house.

The company recently introduced its first 1.2-litre petrol engine, dubbed mFalcon G80, in the KUV100. This engine was developed in collaboration with SsangYong.

Mahindra has shown great flexibility by adapting to the changing market trends. Last month, it introduced a 1.99-litre mHawk diesel engine to cater to the Delhi-NCR area, where the sale of diesel vehicles above 2,000cc has been banned for a period of 3 months (up to March 31, 2016).
