Ferrari 488 GTB with twin-turbo V8 revealed

Ferrari has unveiled the 488 GTB. The successor to the 458 Italia was earlier referred to as the 458 M - referring to the term 'modification'. However, the 488 GTB is no mere facelift and is powered by a 3.9-litre V8 that produces 661 BHP @ 8,000 rpm and 760 Nm of torque at 3,000 rpm. This power is claimed to be enough to propel the 488 GTB to 100 km/h in 3 seconds, while 200 km/h comes up in 8.3 seconds. The top speed is rated at 330 km/h.

The engine is mated with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission that channels the grunt to the rear wheels. The gearbox features Variable Torque Management which "unleashes the engine’s massive torque smoothly and powerfully right across the rev range".

Styling cues include a large air intake scallop that is a throw-back to the 308 GTB - Ferrari's first ever mid-rear-engined V8. The scallop is divided into two sections by a splitter. Ferrari says, the wide front spoiler features a double profile to improve the thermal efficiency of the radiators positioned at the sides. At the back, the 488 GTB features a blown spoiler which is said to generate downforce without increasing drag. The LED tail-lights have been tweaked as well.

The interior remains largely similar, and the feature list is spruced up with new satellite control clusters, angled air vents and a reworked instrument panel. Updates also include a new interface and graphics for the infotainment system along with wrap-around seats.

The 488 GTB will make its public debut at the Geneva motor show in March 2015.
