2017 BMW 5-Series spotted in India

BMW had imported the new-gen 5-Series into India in September this year. Two units, one in the 530d guise while the other in the 520d variant, were brought in the country. A highly camouflaged test mule of the 2017 5-Series (G30) has now been spotted on a flatbed trailer around Pune.

BMW globally unveiled the new 5-Series in October this year, thus marking the introduction of the seventh-generation model of the mid-size luxury sedan. The new 5-er is an amalgamation of design cues from its predecessor, as well as its elder sibling - the new 7-Series. It is 36 mm longer, 6 mm wider and 2 mm taller than the model it replaces. The wheelbase too has been scaled up by 7 mm and now measures 2975 mm.

Built on BMW's Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform, the new 5-Series is claimed to be around 100 kgs lighter than the earlier model. On the inside, the 2017 5-Series comes with features like Heads-Up Display (HUD), latest-generation BMW iDrive system with gesture controls and a 10.25-inch touchscreen display, massage function for the rear seats, wireless charging and Intelligent Voice Assist. It also features semi-autonomous technologies like active side collision protection, crossing traffic warning and an optional Active Cruise Control (ACC) system.

In India, BMW is expected to launch the 2017 5-Series in three variants: 520d (187 BHP), 530d (261 BHP) and 530i (249 BHP). An M-Sport variant will also be introduced later during the car's lifetime.
