Continuing my quest to narrow down on a pre-owned luxury vehicle, since the last update, have test driven a few other vehicles from multiple sources including a C220, an X3, a 5 series and so on. After nearly two months in this journey, the one vehicle which currently stands out is the XC40 T4 available from a BMW preowned selection. The vehicle is late 2021 registered and have covered around 28K kms. Have taken the service history and a few things stand out. Would really appreciate any feedback from the community here on whether these are serious redflags:
1. 23.11.2023 at around 20K Kms: 83244-Drive unit power tailgate following: Noise from tailgate while operating – Done under warranty.

2. 28.03.2024 at around 23K Kms: Airbag seat (SIPS) replace: SRS airbag warning indication – Done under warranty

3. 28.03.2024 at around 23K Kms: Bass speaker/Subwoofer front replace – Done under warranty

4. 02.05.2024 at around 24K Kms: Heated oxygen sensor replace: Engine Malfunction warning indicates O2 sensor needs to be replaced

Are these expected in such low mileage car? Would really appreciate feedback on this.

Those many changes under warranty in 3 years is a red flag for me. Hope that car is not a lemon. If the price is really attractive you can try your luck. Personally I would stay away.

Stay away. These many warranty claims are definitely a red flag. Looking like it's a lemon, these claims are not at all expected from such a low running car.

Volvos are not the most reliable cars especially the newer ones so I wouldn’t go for a used Volvo just to buy into luxury. Go with the tried and true options like GLA or C-Class from Mercedes. I’m sure several BMW options must exist as well and an Audi Q2 or a Lexus NX would make a good choice if you just want something that’s different from the BMWs and Mercs without having to go for a Volvo.

A used Audi Q2, specially in the Technology Trim is an awesome all-rounder car!

These warranty claims are unusual. If the car is under warranty for a few more years it should not matter much.

Also, is this the one in Malad?

I would recommend something a bit cheaper but a bit more practical. A VRS 245, with warranty extendable up to 2027 would be my recommendation.

I was in a similar predicament. However, the lux cars in this price range are just out of warranty, so it is not a good scenario. It is better to either increase the budget and get a lux car under warranty or get a vag car in a similar price range which is under warranty.

I was in the same predicament as you last year and I bought a used C220d. It's been running great and I have no regrets. The Mercedes OM651 engine is known for excellent reliability.

I own and have just sold my 630i at 78K driven. The car has been nothing but reliable. Only the battery has been changed and two sets of tyres. Run flats aren't that expensive and frankly if the cost of tyres is bothering you then maybe you should reconsider the purchase.

Everything that will go wrong will cost a lot. However, not much goes wrong. Choice is yours... Bmw is one of the most reliable brands in India.
