Re: Pre-owned diesel car under 8 lakhs

We were in the same situation couple of months ago. We needed a Diesel car with 4-5 comfortable seating for 10 Lakhs.Altroz Diesel was within our budget but was worried about the BS6 DPF issues etc,

- Settled for 2014 Skoda Rapid 1.6 TDI - Elegance trim. Covered 4,000 km in the last 3 months and personally, I'm enjoying every drive of it.

More details here - https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/india...ml#post5246743 (Pre-worshipped car of the week : Buying a Used VW Vento / Skoda Rapid)

Re: Pre-owned diesel car under 8 lakhs

Even I was in the market for a used Diesel car under 8 lakh.

I checked the below cars

1. S-Cross Diesel - Met all my requirement but never found a good one which I could pick. Either the price is too high or has accident history or high mileage

2. Ertiga Diesel - Nothing special and nothing to complain. But most of the cars are very high priced or with high mileage

3. BR-V Diesel - Not many to find, the ones I found were priced very high for a discontinued car.

4. Duster/Terrano - Not considered as my previous car was Duster

5. Ciaz/Honda/Verna Diesel- Very good cars. 2015-17 Model are available for below 8 lakhs if searched with patience. I was looking for high seating car. Low seating of these cars is something I could not overcome and had to let go.

In-between, my colleague was selling his 2017 Honda BR-V Petrol and I could manage a very reasonable price. I will be picking the BR-V this weekend. Saved a few on 8 lakhs which I can use for petrol for next 2 years considering my running per year.

I would highly recommend you S-Cross and advise you to have a look again at the back seat. Like GTO mentioned, the backseat had 2 positions and can be reclined. Other than the dull looks, I couldn't find anything wrong with the S-Cross. Considering the availability of spares, service cost and resale value of the Car, S-Cross make a lot of sense

Regards

I think this criteria itself narrows down your search to cars using the Maruti 1.3 DDIS, or the short-lived 1.5DDIS. If you can find the latter one, nothing like it.

Nothing else, probably other than the Honda City, gives you that kind of mileage, but then it might overshoot your budget. Cars from the VW/Skoda stable would be strictly 4 seaters, given the formidable middle hump at the rear, nor would they give you the mileage you want.

So it finally narrows down to the Ciaz, S-Cross or the Ertiga, and maybe the Brezza too. The rest of the cars in the lower FGT-based tune would be smaller and more cramped.

Am leaving out the Tata cars using the similar 1.3 DDIS, since you might find cars that don't really age well.

Go for the Ecosport Diesel - you should be able to find many good deals if you look hard enough and also look at neighbouring cities. The used Ecosport prices have fallen a lot already after Ford announced their exit, at least here in Chennai. I saw a listing of a Titanium Plus (with excellent feature set including 6 airbags, a Sync 3 system and cruise control), for a 40K run 2018 car for only 7.5 lakhs. Since the extra depreciation due to the Ford exit news has already kicked in, you will not take much of a hit when you sell the car in 2 years. The facelifted BSIV Ecosport is an incredibly reliable machine and you will only have a super-cheap annual maintenance bill of around 4 K to worry about for the next 3 years. The car drives like a dream, with that direct steering, lively motor and excellent long distance driving comfort. After owning a 2013 Titanium+ TDCI for 7 years, after I finally let it go last year, I still miss the car a lot for its practicality, versatility and FTD factor.

Re: Pre-owned diesel car under 8 lakhs

Why don't you consider the corolla altis diesel, it's a perfect car and it fulfills all your requirements and as you have mentioned that cars are Ill-treated by your family, altis can take a lot of abuse and will still be a reliable machine
The other points which are in favor of altis:

1.It is fuel efficient and will return decent figures
2.Seating 5 people comfortably wouldn't be a big problem
3.With your budget fixed at 7-8l, you can find a 2016-17 model altis in your fixed budget

Re: Pre-owned diesel car under 8 lakhs

Four months back picked up 2017 1.6 S-Cross for 7.5 lacs with 65k mileage . S-Cross can satisfy most of your requirements. S-Cross diesel is a hidden gem in used car market.

Positives

• Back seat has plenty of Knee room and shoulder room. Can comfortably accommodate 5 people.
• Overall Fuel efficiency is hovering around 19.5 KMPL.
• Decent ground clearance, no need to worry about speed breakers.
• Alpha variant has Auto diming rear view mirror , Android Auto , automatic headlight and other features which will help in overall ownership experiences.
• All wheel disc breaks.
• Maruti assurance and peace of mind on maintenance.

Neutral

I’m not happy with S-Cross suspension, ride is not completely flat on highways, you can feel the undulations, minor corrections from suspensions juggling constantly to provide settled ride. Since I picked S-Cross from used marked, I checked the suspension in MASS and confirmed nothing wrong with the suspension components. May be, I’m spoiled by Ford suspension setup in Ikon, Figo and Fiesta and expecting a lot from S-Cross. So while taking test drive, keep an eye on your ride quality along with passengers who usually sits in back seat.

Negatives

• No rear AC vent and sunroof .
• NVH is not great, its average at its best.

I sold my 2011 Fiesta after crossing 200k mileage and picked up S-Cross. While I enjoy power of 1.6, roominess and other features, I still miss Ford’s finesse in Power steering and suspension setup. Sometimes, regret not picking up 2018-2020 Ecosport Diesel. Ecosport might be a credible alternate option for you. We live life once, while we all can give suggestions, pick the car which connects with your heart.
