Re: 2nd car of the house | Buying considerations & factors considered?

Interesting thread,

Lots of different reasons for keeping the second car.... let me add my two bits to it,

I have booked a Skoda Kodiaq and expect delivery by mid/end Feb, have a 11 year old Skoda Laura which has been a workhorse for me..... run 138K+ kms... gone through the regular AC system, Clutch, Timing Belt changes but still drives beautifully,

My reason for considering keeping the old workhorse is somewhat emotional, after having driven this car for 11 years over many a enjoyable drive I just don't have the heart to part with it.

While the car would not strictly qualify as a 'rough use' beater, I am considering keeping the Laura for making short runs and to avoid taking the Kodiaq to crowded parts of the city.

One part of me tells me that once the Kodiaq is in the stable I may not really feel like using the Laura as much and the annual expense on servicing, insurance & paying for an extra parking slot would just not be worth it.

Another part of me tells me that keeping the Laura for short runs etc will help me keep the Kodiaq in better shape.

Would welcome thoughts from fellow BHP'ians on this conundrum.

Cheers,

Sid

I would say sell Laura and get a hatchback for city use. Most of us get emotional with our old cars, but keeping an old Laura will only add to your bills. And honestly justice to Laura is when you take it on highways, but then after having Kodiaq most likely you will stick to that.
