This was the scene for advance booking three days prior to its release in Bombay.

The picture was Mughal E Azam (1960)

Yes, surely could. In fact these (the same design) were branded by GM and Ford using their Ford and Chevrolet brand names and made for the armed forces in the U.S. and Canada. The ground clearance of these trucks was terrific.

(from offroadaction.ca)

Perhaps the necessity arose due to needs for the war that U.K. and the U.S. was involved in.
The manufacture of the WW II, low bonnet, Ford and Willys' jeeps are also based on the same logic, owing to directives from the U.S. government..

Chevrolet Canadian built military trucks by British design requirements.

Re: Images of Traffic Scenes From Yesteryears

An old picture post card of Bombay. But other than some Premiers and maybe an Ambassador, other cars cannot be identified even in the original picture.

The American commercial vehicle is most likely a late 1940's (introduced in January 1948) or early 1950's Ford F Series pick-up truck or van. Many of these were imported during then.

Re: Images of Traffic Scenes From Yesteryears

Some clips from Youtube

First Clip shows traffic in 1980 Delhi

Second clip is about Indian buses - Mostly late 1960s - 1970s DTC (Delhi Transport corporation) buses, private tour operators and some buses from other states also.
What is interesting is that DTC operated double decker buses similar to what BEST was operating in Mumbai at that time and almost all DTC buses were Ashok Leyland buses.
