re: Pilots & his 1950 Mouse Restoration - Fiat Topolino Delivered

Good to see the progress being done. I hope this process of tinkering is not repeated again and the painter takes over the car from here. What shade is being planned Pavan ji?
BTW The sequence of the first two pics are just hilarious.

re: Pilots & his 1950 Mouse Restoration - Fiat Topolino Delivered

Some more updates.

CHASSIS is almost 99% Done.

The steering column is overhauled, but not much of luck since no local spares suit it. Only 2 brass collar bushes were made at lathe and installed. Still a bit of that irritating ply.

The brakes were worked on earlier, but this time one small change, we are replacing the entire metal pipe from the front to the rear.

Gearbox oil is drained, cover opened, cleaned and painted.

Only work pending on the Chassis is:

1) Balance rod bushes
2) Steering tie rod ends

Hope to find something suitable to finish the Chassis.

re: Pilots & his 1950 Mouse Restoration - Fiat Topolino Delivered

Forgot to add few more things.

Got rear suspension , Gas filled. though the part says, its made in collaboration with "MAGNETTI MARELLI" i am a bit confused, this company also makes Suspension spares for few Korean cars and is available in the Indian Market. Now since i've got it, i am happy about the Italian tag.

http://www.magnetimarelli.com/englis...on_mercati.php

Just saw the website on the package, Its indeed a MAGNETTI MARELLI product. Wow......!

Also got 2 sets of points and condencer made by FACET" Spa Italy again

Some more spares are yet to arrive from Italy in the coming days.

re: Pilots & his 1950 Mouse Restoration - Fiat Topolino Delivered

After the shockers came in, we realised, the bottom mounting on one side-Rear is broken

The mechanic came over and removed from one side, will be replicating the same for the LHS.

Also, i had forgotten to order Shockers for the front, the moment i am typing this, my paypal account is already debited with the payment for the same, Italy Rocks......

One more lot of spares are yet to be ordered from Italy, Really a Big order, waiting to see if Joy can get them when he flies back next time. If not, order it online.

One more co-incidence.

I had ordered for steering dampers from Germany for my VW Beetle, and the damper they send me was this.

The brand that i doubted, is indeed made by the reputed " MAGNETTI MARELLI"

Good going PK! I only though you import VW parts! It's nice to see FIAT parts being imported!

The red paint on the chassis looks so good. The progress is quite impressive.

Waiting to see the Bug in our Meets!

Feels nice to have people participating in this thread, gives an added inspiration.

Work is happening rather slowly, but surely. Each and every minute details are looked after, from a nut n bolt to the washers. The Chassis should be 100% ready in the coming days leaving the engine apart (Which has finally gone to my old MASTER TUNER )

The present mechanic tried his Best, but failed miserably due to his overconfidence, the second Head was never looked at, he was only concentrating on the welded head.

On the contrary, my old MASTER TUNER is currently working on the un-molested Head, but faced 3-4 times. But i am 100% sure, my MASTER TUNER will work magic on the engine.

Custom made battery box came in today.

Something like this. Basically Joy loves RED (since he flies the RED BIRDS)

But we are also talking about "ORIGINAL" shades.

Maybe Bone White or the Peacock Blue. We still have a good 2 weeks before the the actual paint job starts.

The fenders are taking a lot of time to shape up.

Using the latest painting procedure for this car.

Will keep you guys updated as the painting progresses.

COFAP is a shock absorber supplier to many models. It is a BRAZILIAN company and not GERMAN.its full name is-Companhia Fabricadora De Pecas S.A. shortened as COFAP. The OE german steering dampers for aircooled VW's were supplied by FICHTEL SACHS and they are still available NOS. and they are expensive also like many GENUINE VW GERMAN items
Magnetti Marelli has some controlling stake in COFAP

Hello,

I don't think Fitchel & Sachs exists any more. I have just ordered a steering damper for my Merc and it is Sachs Boge.
