Whole day is lost, and we are either getting a higher guage (Low thickness) or the lower Guage(Really Thick) Hopefully tomorrow's search might prove lucky. There are also efforts to salvage the complete Chassis from the DONOR CAR, but i think we will save that too very soon.

Manish ji i mentioned your car's example because i saw your car's body being worked upon with the grinder. I meant to point out the grinder machine to Pavan ji. Sorry if i confused you.

Hi, Thanks for your help.

I can see you have mentioned 1946 Fiat Topolino in your signature, but this one is a 1950 Fiat 500C.

Regarding the spares, Yes i do need few spares, starting from the ENGINE HEAD to few switches. Please do let me know, You can send me a PM or publish it here in this thread. I would be more than happy to Buy them from you.

No Buddy, Dont worry, i dont get confused so easilty

I will be using the old method of sanding down the chassis manually using metal scrubber and sand paper, it works better that way.

Today, i could get to complete most of the work on the Chassis, i am getting very close to completing the work on this portion.

This new tinker is not only good at welding, he's even good at replicating all the welded portions like the Original.

Thanks a lot Pavan ji for clearing the doubt over confusion. Regarding the sanding process i think you know much better than me so won't comment on that. But as you said it too, the new tinker surely is very precise in his work and the pics prove the same. I highly appreciate the work of these kind of people.

I am sure this tinker will finish the job as per my expectations, and to reward him, i have given him 2 more cars for tinkering work at slightly non-negotiated price.

The main aim this time for the Chassis is to get it to almost Close to the ORIGINAL spec.

While the work on the Chassis still continues.

I need help from FIAT'ians in helping me with few spares that are almost same as used in Indian Fiats. Mostly the couplers and rubber bushes.

While the chassis was sprayed with Diesel 2 days ago,to loosen all that grime and dirt, we will start sanding it down. Later spray caustic soda, again clean it with thinner before its perfect for the antirust coating.

Its a long process involving time and money, Its better done now.

Along with that, we are also completing the treatment for the Shell's underbody.

Once the chassis and the shell is ready, fix it and half job is done Later we will look into the top portion. - (GROUND UP APPROACH)

Next 4 days this work will be completed.

Pavan ji its very kind of you to share the process involved in treating the chassis and body of the car. I am learning a lot from this thread. Actually now i know how to get the things done in the right direction.
Regarding the rubber parts you must be referring to the VIR rubber coupling, suspension bushes et al. Hope you find all the required components.
BTW are the engine mounts too the same as of Premier manufactured cars ?.

Yes, i am referring to the VIR Rubber coupling - I need to try out the PP / Millicento coupling to see weather they match or not.

About the Suspension bushes, i have found a guy who can replicate the same with silicone bushes or brass bushes. Will have them on my hand in couple of days.

Some pics on the sanding process. Hand sanding is coming out well and as expected, the guy who's working is really good at this.

While he's working on the chassis, the tinker completed all metal replacement and tinkering on the underbody today. Tomorrow is slotted for the inside cabin area, I am happy at the pace.

Sanding down process is complete, but there is still a bit of old grime and dirt, once again we have soaked the chassis with diesel.

The steering box and the gearbox is removed.

The body shell is undergoing some more welding.

Looks like this will go on for another week, before i can put both the chassis and shell together.

The anti-rust coating on the chassis and body shell has many stages.

1) Apply 2 coats of Etching primer on the chassis.
2) Sand it down , or rather dull it using 1000 sand paper.
3) Apply the third and final coat of Etching primer.
4) Leave it overnight to dry / let it dry for 3 hours in hot sun.
5) Dull it again, and spray a coat of 3M antirust coating.
6) Let it dry for an hour
7) Re-spray 2 more coats of 3M Antirust.
8) leave it overnight to dry.

The costing might be like this:

1) 3M Etching primer 3 Ltrs - 2200/-
2) Thinner 1 Ltr - Rs 150/-
3) 3M 1000 Sandpaper - Rs 40/-
4) 3M Antirust spray 2.5 ltrs - Rs 3000/-
5) Painter labour - Rs 2500/-
6) Sanding guys labour - Rs 1500/-
7) Diesel 2 ltrs - Rs 88/-
8) Caustic Soda 200 gms - Rs 30/-

TOTAL - Rs 9508/-

This is only the costs involving the antirust coat, we will be detailing the rest of the components of chassis, like the Brake pipe, gearbox, trans-axle, rear diffrentials, gearbox, etc.... The costs for which i shall put it once i start work on it.

After viewing the inside of the door i was thinking why did Fiat refrained from providing the drop down window glasses on the doors instead of sliding ones. Is there any specific reason for this. I thought so because there is ample amount of space inside the door to hide the lowered glass.

Guys, i learnt something new about the Suicidal doors, on why they are called so, today.

Imagine the Fiat is cruising on a highway...........

The other occupant tries to escape...............eeks...

He/She opens the door and tries to jump outside.....................

What happens to him / her on that instance..........?

Thats how the doors got the name "SUICIDAL DOORS"
