Dharmaditya Patnaik has become a very well known collector from orissa.I have heard of many cars being sold to him.Could we with the help of our members in orissa and others who know about his collection track the cars he has.He probably would be the largest collectors at the moment. Please also add pictures if possible.
Indrojit,
Commendable effort to start a thread on this collection. Would it make sense to expand this to include all vintage cars in Orissa? There could be other collectors/owners who might have pre-1939 cars...some royal families perhaps, such as the royals of Dhenkanal.
What do you think?
Regards
P.S.: 1.Your posts on restoring has prompted me to ask you to visit your workshop in Calcutta, assuming I am there.
2. Off topic - I had been driven in a Citroen Traction Avant ( black) colour which belonged to ( if memory serves me right) a Mr. Mukherjee near Shibpur. This was in 2000. I had gone to see the car. Do you have any info. about this?

Well that is definately a very good idea but if we keep it for sometime in the future is that alright?Mr.Dramaditya has got some very great cars and it would be lovely for us to know and learn about them.I expected that the moment i madew this thread that more and more people would start posting whatever they know and soon we would get to know of some really good cars and facts.

You are welcome to do so.I'm mostly based in delhi and am calcutta for quite a short while but you could still go and see it and i would request my dad to show you around and i'm sure he would be happy to do so.:)
Could you tell me the full name of the gentleman so that its a bit easier to trace the car.Till what i know there are about 3 citroens in calcutta at the moment. The car we are doing was also black and had some portions painted in red.If you could tell me wheather it was a 6 cylinder or a 4 cylinder and wheather it was a left hand drive or a right hand drive and i.e. subject to your memory :)
IndroJit,
Do start a thread on Orissa based vintage cars as and when you have enough info.
Re. the Avant, if I remember correctly this was a 4 cylinder, RHD, all black, possible manufacture date being early fifties. Mr. Mukherjee is a lawyer, and was proud of his Avant and wanted to sell it only to an enthusiast.
I am one but at that point in time did not have the resources ( incl. a garage) to keep it in perfect condition. He lives in Shipbur near a bridge.
Pardon the absence of details as I am not very familiar with Shipbur.
Regards
DKG and others could you please post pictures and details of his cars in the cartier show?
Check the cartier event thread for all the pictures you want.
It might be a good idea to actually check with teh owner of this collection before posting his cars here.
Now those photographed in public I am sure can be posted but am refering to others that might have been picturedon his premises
Well thats not a bad idea. But i don't actually know of all the cars in that thread which belong to him as i wasn't there in the cartier show.Thats the only reason i requested others to post.I didn't want to put up some thing that i am not completely sure of.
Some cars owned by him which i know of.Others kindly put in your inputs as well.
1).1960's Jaguar Mark II 3.8 bought from calcutta recently.
2).1948-1950's Bentley mark VI drop head coupe Bought from calcutta.
3).1927 Lancia Lambda Bought from Delhi.
4).1927 Mercedes Benz 680k/630K Boguht from delhi.
Can anyone mention the cars from the cartier show.

Yes you are right there is a black car but it is not in a very good condition anymore now.The car i believe is not for sale at the moment also.
Well now i think people don't really want to discuss the collection of the particular collector for various reasons i guess. Can we atleast now have some cars from various collectors from Orissa?
I have also heard about people owning good number of vintage cars in Orissa. Problem is, I don't exactly know stupid:.
I have even heard that the Cristian missionaries active their have some pre-war jeeps also. Some time ago I had came across a person who said he has a left hand drive original Willey jeep and would sell it around 50K.
I don't have proper links their so I am helpless for further search, I wish some of our members in Orissa would surely help us.
I request you guys to upload the snaps of the beautiful collection. please:
BUMP :D
On my recent trip to Bhubaneswar, I got this great opportunity to see some cars of Mr. Patnaik's collection and meet the man himself, thanks to two well known collectors. His collection is showcased in the latest Auto India (I am yet to receive my copy) and even Mr. Patnaik is yet to see this issue.
As I sort out the pictures here are the first two
First is the 1923 20HP RR with hand controls (Ex-Udaipur)
This is the 1927 Mercedes 630K
The engine is a beast, which I understand is almost 7 ltr. The supercharger is clearly seen
It was amazing to see the precision of the radiator fan. See the angle of the fan blades as it is housed behind the "V" shaped radiator and above the supercharger. The precision was just superb.
More to follow
Cheers
KPS
