A Fiat 1100D in a showroom of Auto Distributors Patna. Do they still exist?
For our Fiat friend to enjoy this picture.

Cheers harit

White wall tyres, yes but I doubt if Fiats originally came with tubeless tyres atleast in the Indian market (Please correct me if I am wrong). As per my knowledge from the very beginning till the end Fiats always came with 5.40 x 14 Nylon tyres (However the brand and trim like white side-walled, thin side-walled, black, etc varied)

Adheesh Parelkar

Its quite possible that tubeless tyres were offered, as they were definitely offered on Ambys and my Standard.

Which one, the Pennant?? Or the Super 10? Either way, this sure is news to me!

My 1960 Standard 10 had them, don't know about the 58 Super 10. Most contemporary cars sported them, but soon we switched exclusively to the tubed variety.

I crossed checked it with even the Italian manuals. Couldn't find any reference of tubeless tyres there either.

I was going through some old posts this morning, and found a link to an interesting picture by Stanher here

The file name reads "Squadron Leader FS in front of the Drigh Road Mess with his Humber Hawk car"

Probably shot in Pakistan going by our recent discussions on KAM plates.

Incidentally Harit had recently posted a similar picture here

Since my technical knowledge about cars is quite less, you may be correct. The particular car that this was featured was in the late 50s early 60s period. So I was around 4 at that time. Why I remember it is that my father explained to me that the tyre is tubeless and the reason why air did not leak immediately with a nail inside it.

Another neat shot which appears to be shot in India, from the same set of pictures, an early Fiat (1919?) with rumble seat.

A similar car is in a Bangalore collection.

I also remember they had a M&M huge logo.

Any clues on what the car is? A Wolseley perhaps?
Yep it is, A Siddeley.
While reading more on British history, I read something really amazing. Cannot resist to share, hence going off-topic here (Mods please pardon me).
-------------
We are habitual of writing any monetary figure as e.g. "100/-" ever imagined what does "/-" mean? This notation has been taken from British format of listing prices in "Pounds Shillings/Pence" like the Siddeley above was priced at approx 700 pounds 7 shillings and 3 pence so it would be written as "(GBP symbol)700 7/3d" if these 3 pence werent there then it would be "(GBP symbol)700 7/-" Since we had only Rupees and Paisa so we write only "/-" in the end.

Moralfibre sent me this great link with some super WW2 photos in India, China and Burma

India 1 - a set on Flickr

One image shows a street scene with some cars visible, it appears to be Calcutta, but the only regn number visible reads KAR 4147 so can't say. maybe Pakistan.

The two tone Wolseley with black out headlights may be a taxi? It seems to have a plate on the roof.

Attached is a period picture of the famous swan car, which was smuggled out of India. Enjoy a picture of lost heritage.
The photo credit is a7racer on flickr. He has some lovely photos, Karl has put up the fiat 501 from his selection.

Cheers harit
