Another photo I bought a while ago.
Anonymous family at a beach. Nostalgic, yes, family yes, car in picture - the required criteria, but not my family.
Actually deviating, not sure which car it is. Maybe Vauxhall?

Enjoy harit

There are still a number of Mazda 1500's and Toyota Coronas carrying the KAM series which puts it squarely in time period 1970 to 1972. Also the question of this series ( KAM ) being used previously is then in doubt

Take care
Very doubtful if KAM was an Indian no. Have not come across this anywhere except for this lot of pics. There is one more KAM registered Singer Roadster of around 1950.
BTW, was there an "Eastern Automobiles" at The Mall in Lahore? And did they sell Jeeps?

Hi Amol
It is not a Merc, grill is too narrow. I have examined under a magnifying glass.

Note the hills in the background.

Another family picture, again not mine.
This is a Ford Custom. Note the Morris behind.
Note the number plate has been blanked.
A child sitting on the bonnet being photographed. This happens even today.
The car does not appear to have been new.

Cheers harit

Post# 646, car in the background may be Hillman 1936-37, if radiator hood is not nickel chromed, body colour painted. Radiator grill is only nickled, the bulbous wings looks like Hillman.

Obviously those people value their kid over the car. Car is merely a background. My brother and I too have a similar photograph taken on a Amby in 1973. Not our Amby, my parents never owned a car, even today.

When I think back I realise we never took a photograph of our 1970 Lambretta which served our family for 22 years until I got my Kinetic Honda. Taking photographs of a vehicle somehow never occured to us.

Surprisingly clear picture, great. Possibly on holiday, gassing up on the way? Picture taken after 75, when this style of side trim and wheelcaps were introduced on the Padmini of the era. Car is a 62-64 Super Select.

The car behind the Ford Custom (which looks grand with the large lamp in the centre) might be a Hindusthan going by the grille. Superb.

I too am not sure exactly which year, but donning my Sherlock hat again (), it definitely was well into the 70s, going by the typical 70s style "long collar" shirt the boy is wearing. 'could also be in the early 80s, as this style of attire did continue until then too, and also considering the car looks quite worn, and having lost most of it's original cosmetics, viz. side-trims, hubcaps.

IMHO it has to be a Hindusthan (14?) as being a larger car than the Minor, the front grille possibly couldn't be an accurate fit on the latter.

Look at the wheelcaps. These kinds look like the Padmini, Karl would be able to tell you what year they were introduced.

There we go. I told you he would be able to spot that if I had spotted it. Pucca Fiatwalla!!

I have found some pics of my old cars (still the elusive 1920's pic is not found, but ill get to it soonero r later.) Before that ill have to learn how to use my scanner. Tell me, is there any way to scan these pics in a bigger size without spoiling picture quality?

This style of front grille was offered on some versions of the Morris Oxford, on which the Hindusthan 14 was based. But in all likelyness it should be a 14.

We are like this only, no ? First we fit early Padmini wheelcaps on a super select. Then we put BOLTS through them !!

Well here goes my contribution. Nothing from Family but due to a lack of a dedicated non family thread i shall post these here. Some found on the net and some from various other sources.

Does this look like a Standard? This is an Indian Officer posing with in what i believe is Burma, with his Burmese counterpart. Rb would be a Burmese regd number.

Name: 1MoulmeinCustomsOfficers.jpg
Views: 1543
Size: 23.5 KB

Posing at Churchgate amongst a Morris, Dodges and Chevy?? Karl, recognize the number???.

Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars-churchgate.jpg

EDIT

The Prince of Wales Seaman's Club at Ballard Estate in Mumbai. What car is that? Too hazy but a prominent nose. Which car does that remind you of...?? Could it be the Elusive Graham??

Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars-prince-wales-seamans-club-bombay.jpg

EDIT- sorry the watermark is getting in the way of the view of the car

This is what the club it looks like today. Nothings changed!!

Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars-royal-bombay-seamens-society.jpg

Eros theatre flanked by a Morris, A Jag and a Hillman or two?

Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars-eros.jpg

The Taj Mahal Hotel with a Dodge (??) taxi and an American wagon. Pontiac anyone...or again Dodge??

Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars-taj.jpg

This is the beautiful Kalpana Kartik, Dev Anand's wife. Whats that in the background? a Chevy or an Oldds...wait a Dodge??

Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars-jaayein.jpg

The place looks like Bandra or a Worli seaface bungalow. Of course this is all guess work

And has this pic of Marine dirve been posted before??

Lovely pics. indeed!

Yes the RB car is a Standard "flying" 8 coupe. I'm guessing it's a post-war one.

The background car I suspect is a '49/50 Dodge Coronet, going by the numberplate light. The Hyd. Nizam had a similar one, which is a part of a collection now, still in original paint!
