Regarding the convertible Buicks, well somehow there were a number in India. Most common were Roadmasters of 1937. In the world they are rare, but in India as R H Drives they are even rarer. There is the green one in Mumbai, one under restoration in Jaipur, one each in Delhi and near Mangalore. I am sure that one or two more will be found. These are the Roadmasters, smaller tourers are also around, I believe 2 in Jaipur.
I have one Roadmaster too, but basically missing its engine. The block is there, but little else.

I am certain that KAM and KAN were 50s numbers from the evidence I have seen. As in India, a Pakiatani vehicle being moved from place to place used to get a new number from the new RTO when licensed. The Landie is definately an old Srs 1 model (headlights in the middle) and is an early 50s model from the bulkhead shape. I used to break landies back in my previous life in Scotland and am sure this is an 80" wheelbase - VERY collectible nowadays. If I had to guess I would put KAM at no later than 1955.

Stanher, guess what, you were right. I did not remember seeing a date and actually had misplaced the photo for a short time. Just found it, checked there is a date indeed, 1973. You are the next Sherlok after Karl)

Attaching another photo, this time with KA registration though it looks like KAB. Does anyone know when construction started with concrete and steel? In the background on the left in this picture such construction activity is going on. And dear Cedric, where was KA registration issued?

A little OT but I have to ask where do you get these old pictures from ? Do people actually sell them, how are they aquired by these sellers ?

I am a collector. So when I start collecting, I go all out. Everyone knows what I collect, and when they come across something I am informed. Even on this forum, I have received hints when something was available.
So I collected, cars (but ran out of space) collected bikes (now lofts are full) notes, coins stamps, pocket watches & wall clocks. I have no time to sort many of these items any more, so they are just kept. My old pictures passion has yielded the Graham, Caddy V16, Marmon, Franklin, Daimler-THE Daimler now in Blackhawk, Bhawalpur Rolls, Minerva, Chrysler Imperial etc. And some interesting pictures with history.
I suspect that much of the stuff is thrown out, household items sold when the household was dissolved. The bazar people sort out everything which they bring in and the stuff lands up with the specialist.
Some photos are also gifted, others are lent to me to copy for my own collection and in that case I do not post them at all.
It is rare that the photos were actually sold by an original owner.

No, what you see here is a Chrysler product. Those rear view mirrors are typical Chrysler. Perhaps Plymouth or a Dodge.

Hello there Harit, this car looks more like a late 50s American Ford to me - Custom, Fairlane, Galaxie. Most probably a '58-59 Ford Fairlane.

This is definetly not a Karachi registration though the place looks so much like the Karachi of old.. The car is, as Harit says, a Humber. To me it looks like a series I - III Super Snipe, probably 1953/5. The car looks reasonably new in the photograph, shiny coat of paint and good chrome on bumpers etc, so the photograph is probably from the same era as the car. The building in the background, now that looks a lot like the old Parsi/Christian areas of Karachi. More confusion!!
Just for information KAB was the Karachi registration series around 1955 in Karachi. KAM came along in the 70's.

Ref your older post "The Mall" is the main road running through what was principally the British part of town. In even olden days these were referred to as "Thandi Sarak" meaning cool road.They were sprayed with water by a "Mashki" in the evening and then the Gora sahib with the mem sahib would come out for a walk in the cool hours of the evening!!
There is a Mall Road in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Murree Hill station and if I am not mistaken in Simla too.

In the matter of the Buick convertibles what I meant to say was that the Convertibles were rare but in the convertible range you also had the choice of a boot or bootless option. The bootless option was very rarely exercised by owners and that is what makes the Buick convertibles without boot ultr rare, when new and now more so.

That car is certainly a Chrysler product, maybe a De Soto someting.

The admirable thing about these pics is the age of the lady and the spirit of adventure that propelled them to take such a trip which would undoubtedly been pretty hard to do.

As for the late thirties Buicks there are a few in Hyd, the four door kind, the Datia and the Janjira car come to mind. Don't actually recollect a two door Roadmaster convertible of the same vintage though.
