I remember that the customs dept of the day did not allow him to import the car without paying a hefty duty. Only after the intervention of the Sports Ministry or the P.M. he was allowed to bring the car in sans duty.

What a fantastic picture. Doubt if this actually is a Jugaad. Rear tyre is flat and there is a tree stump holding the car up. Probably the front suspension must have been removed for repairs. Still a super picture

Thanks for sharing

Cheers

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Here is a lovely picture of P M Reddy very kindly shared by his grandson Anirudh Reddy, for which we are very grateful. The car appears to be an Amilcar, and the picture was taken in York, England.

PM Reddy was responsible for the 'Pingle' small car designed at HAL. More here (Indigenous Oddities - Oddball Automobiles of India)

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

What appears to be an Oakland Tourer shared here. The registration number seems to be T 1979, probably corresponding to the erstwhile Bombay Presidency, though this picture offers no further clues on location.

As per Ranjit who happens to be a classmate, this car was used as a pilot vehicle on shikar trips mostly to crush any thorns that may puncture the car of his grandpa, the prime minister of Holkar state.

The picture is from when it was in Jaipur, presumably from the 1970's.

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

A 1962-ish Amby Mk 1 is seen in an unidentified old wedding photo, incidentally I saw the same car in Dadar, Mumbai some years back. MHC is probably a Nasik registration originally.
