You would be amazed at the different type of makes and models of vehicles which were present in India.

I have seen a book of registration numbers of vehicles in south India, Madras Presidency of the 1920's.
I have also seen a list of vehicles registered in Bengal. There were vehicles which are very rare worldwide today!! British, French, American, Italian, you name them and they were there.

Below is a picture I found very interesting. My guess is that these are Parsis, but why is one car registered 1061? Is a letter missing for Bombay, or is this in Bengal? And what is that monster on the left?

Looking forward to comments.

Cheers harit

While I cannot contribute to identifying the marques, I do not think this is in Bengal going purely by the attire of the people present in the shot.

'1061' is visible in 2 places; the rear right fender and under the car. Was the latter placement common?

Harit,
Both Bengal (Calcutta) and Bombay had numbers only when they started. Calcutta went on for a much longer time with the numbers only. I have found the attached photo (from somewhere on TeamBHP a while ago) that seems to be a similar car or age of car and with a much higher registration. This one is from Calcutta for sure. That would put the unidentified one as Bombay if I am right about the cars.
Hope that helps
Cheers
Cedric

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Thanks Travancore sir, nice pictures of Eid celebrations, this is famous venue Idh Gah, near Mir Alam lake & Hyderabad Zoo where Idh prayers used to held in Ramazan & Bakr Eid. What a collection
of vintage cars of those times.
Cheers!

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Here is a nostalgia picture recent posted in FB - Bangalore - photos from a bygone age.

The car in the picture appears to be a Doctor Coupe.

Photo credits to Patrick Wilson on FB

My initial reaction was this is a Ford Model A. But the wheel hub seems to be different
Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars-mystery1.jpg

Also there are so many different things on this car, which seems to hint that this is not a Ford

Car appear to be American, any thoughts? At the same time, does the body style point towards this car being European?

Cheers

Hi KPS

It seems to be a lil low slung car... wild guess..DKW/ADLER or the likes... just a wild shot in the dark. But the spokewheels make it again doubtful
