The bike in the background, particularly its number, is interesting.

The bike looks very early - pre 20s probably, or mid 20s at the most. MC registration is of the erstwhile Madras Precidency.

That's around the same mark Mr. Galiffe dates the picture to be from; '20s.

This Skoda was part of a long expedition conducted in 1939 across India.

Yes I looked at the side patti's, later realized that she didn't had quarter glass. Not necessary that a SS will have lockable lid. Earlier ones may have come with this sticking out. But I may be wrong as well.

I doubt if SS ever had the ones sticking out - afaik, they were the first models that came with the concealed one with flap. I'll let the experts here confirm though.

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Thanks to this thread, I have recently developed a keen interest in old photographs

Here are some of the ones I found while surfing the net:

The Ambassador Hotel in 1950:

A random street photograph from 1950:

This supposedly was among the first cars in India owned by Mr. Rustomjee Cowasjee Cursetjee Jamsetjee Jejeebhoy:

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Sent to me by someone on facebook- two Heralds, a mk1 and mk2 (with headlights modified to resemble a triumph Vitesse front end) used in rallying back in the day. Incidentally, I had a couple of pics. of the mk1, also found through facebook, which happened to be driven by yesteryears' rally champion Vicky Chandhok.

Lovely pic indeed but judging by the logo, overriders and hubcaps it looks like an early Padmini.

'tis actually an early (maybe late 70s) Premier Padmini- with a Hyderabad regn.!

Looks nice nevertheless.

'wonder if it survives. No data found in local RTO website!

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Found on the internet though cannot recollect the site now.
Pic. of what is said to be IBM's HQ in India in Delhi, 1960s.
The Herald, however, seems to have an MSS regn. so would've been brought there from Madras.

And a couple more of a "CALTEX" Lorry I found on a facebook group, though seems to be from an old Kannada movie. Said to have been many of these around back in the day.
