Stanher,
PUx nnnn is one of the original 1947 series Punjab registrations. As far as I know - which is certainly not to say I know everything; I wish I did - all the 1947 series were 3 letters.
In 1939, PU nnnn was the Patiala registration. Is it possible that this is a pre 1947 car? My feeling is that it should be Patiala as priyo says.
Cheers
Cedric

Here is the Bhopal PIII - wearing its Patiala registration PUA-700.

The car went from Bhopal to Patiala; and was gifted to the Maharaja's niece on her wedding.

Yes, this would be a 1948 Buick. Which model without additional photos is impossible. Why a 1948 and not 47 you ask? The grill shell and grill are separated. On the 47 the grill and shell were connected. Ooops! My memory is not good enough to separate 47 and 48. The grill I was thinking about was the rather rare 1946 grill. Seems the 47 and 48 grills are identical.

Yup, the 46 grille is slightly different and integral. For the 47 and 48 I think the 'Crosshair' mascot on the bonnet had some slight reinforcement differences, and the steering wheel and meters were ivory in one year, black in another. Afraid I can never remember which was which.
