Perhaps if you cared to share a proper photo and not parts where we have to imagine the rest, it would be more enjoyable.

Interesting... I would love to know how you've concluded that this unique bike is a BMW. Any idea what year and model it would be.
Cheers

Nigel, let us see if some one will identify the bike now ? No one usually identifies this boxer with where it came from

Was this your uncles bike or was it R's bike ? I have always wondered about this.

If you read through some of the memoires of these people (flyers of IAF of yester years) Its amazing

Best Regards & Ride Safe

Ram

Then maybe its a Douglas? They were popular boxer twins of the time.

Karl - I didn't mean you when I said "anyone" in my previous post , it was too easy for you with two clues

Its Douglas 1949/ 1950 Mark IV or Mark V (not too sure hence giving both years)

The other one - Triumph - most probably 1949 5T Speed Twin

Nigel, any more photos of the bike and your uncle - Edited in - The bikes at the time of the picture was owned by R and one Flg Off Nizamudin. Also did your uncles family name start with M ?

Did it come to your uncle latter on or did it go to Nizamudin from your uncle ?

Best Regards & Ride Safe

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Karl Uncle the answer was put up in April
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/vintag...ml#post3424013

Douglas Mark III Sports 48 /49
The clues are the
Less High valanced Front fender, and the high exhaust to tell it from the Mark III ... but they both shared the Radialraulic forks and the Torsioned rear end... these and a glimpse of the cylinder head, the speedometer above the headlamp and one look at the Tank will tell an oldtimer it isn't a BMW

My Uncles no more. But this has to be 'Rags' bike cos he was the one who had and rode the unique twin and a 1500 sports car.

But there is a story to this pic Stanher posted a few months ago. I went on to the link with it and strangely came across a pic on the bharat Rakshak IAF page that had my uncle along with the other Flying Officers with his name mentioned by 'R'. I sent it to my cousin and at 4 am the next morning I got a msg when did you get my dads pic from. You see that was the first time we saw the pic. probably shared by R's family.

So no more pics sadly

Ride safe Ram, and yes they have amazing stories to tell. Just saw your edited in... yes M is the surname but a little misspelling there probably after all these years

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Good to see some pics recently from people's own family albums again! Instead of obscure and impersonal pics from the net, publications and other people's stuff! Thanks schakrvarthy, Shwetank, SS-Traveller, Wasif and anybody else that I may have missed out who's posted, what to me are genuinely nostalgic pics from our family albums that this thread originally was, and I wish had stayed (even what some people consider unexciting automobiles)!

The first pic seems to be of a V8 Ford mid to late 1930's Possably owned by the Thondimans.. {note the flag on the front left mudguard}as I have seen a pic of a similar looking car with the late Raja of Pudukottai. The second pic seems to be an earlier Dodge. of coures I may be mistaken and am open to correction.
