Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Here are pictures of my 1959 Morris Mini Traveller. I had this car with me till 2004 before I sold it to now Late Shirazi who in turn sold this car to Raghu (Bhpian tonrag).

Quote:
The Mini was a genuine four seater. This was possible within such a small bodyshell because the engine was mounted transversely, driving the front wheels via a gearbox which was uniquely incorporated into the sump of the engine. Engine and gearbox thus shared the same oil, which was a significant piece of design in response to the 1956 Suez crisis and the fears of future oil shortages.

I bought this car in Salem. I remember the whole experience as Dad, Sripathy, another friend and I drove in our Morris Tiger to Salem from Bangalore. We were supposed to do an exchange deal which did not work out, but we still ended up buying the Woody and driving back the Morris Tiger back.

Here are the pictures of the car when I owned it.

Dad is a tight fit in the car

One of the conditions of the sale was that the car had to be repainted into Blue/White. The buyer paid for it, but we had to get it done. Here is how she looked when we delivered the car.

This looks like a really unique and attractive car, you should have retained it

To be honest I preferred the more striking red colour, though the blue shows off the wood better.

tonrag, do you still have the car?

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

I agree with karlosdeville, it looked much better in red, but to each his own. If the buyer wanted it blue, well he got it!

The Morris looked awesome no doubt, and the fact that it is still changing hands is the biggest example of its demand. Cheers!

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Actress Sonam Kapoor uploaded this picture on instagram, which is presumably of her father Anil Kapoor in his early years. Picture is of poor quality ,apart from XK I can spot a few Ambassadors.

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

I found this picture/postcard of a possibly a " Standard" car on ebay sometime back.As per the seller the picture is dated from 1910 & is possibly of a diplomat's car as it has the Union Jack attached to the bonnet. The picture/postcard was produced by Del Tupo & Co, Madras,India.

Note The Union Jack on the Bonnet

Here is the back of the postcard
Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars-_57-1.jpg

It is addressed to Ms. May Reynolds and reads

"My Dear May,
here is one the baby at the wheel. He loves to turn this but always blinks
when the hooter is touched. much love to all from all of us. "

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Two very nostalgic pictures of two lovely cars we had in the family and two lovely people in the family, my first cousin and his wife. Though he is no more, his memories are intact in my mind.

In the picture below (when he brought his bride home) - you can the see the portions of a 1949 Chevy Styleline Deluxe - it looks like that is only picture of the car in existence. I am still searching and hope to unearth a full picture some day. Whereabouts of the car are unknown, probably wrecked as it was sold in mid 1970s to some one connected with film industry in Madras. The car was LHD, imported (TR) from USA by my uncle.

In the picture below 30 years latter in 1990 the same people, with another lovely car - Toyota Corona 2 lit. RHD, Cherry Red colour. It was again imported (TR) by my uncle in 1977 on his return from a UN posting. The car came through Bangladesh. Current wherabouts not known. Last seen with the owner of Union Garage Trivandrum around 1998.

Here is a lovely trio shared by a friend showing his Chevy (still with him) alongwith a Chrysler and Cadillac he'd spotted many years back.

Thanks Ram! Later that evening, or the next day, remember going there in the other Chevy, KLT-501!

There was also a black 1949/50 Chevy in Trivandrum at the same time, if I remember right (belonged to a lawyer ?)

Yes Shyam. The wife is a Doctor as well and is still practicing in Trivandrum,

Prem, it must have been the next day, as the wedding was at night at Kanakakunnu. The Return (Marupadi) must have been on the next day.

Best Regards & Drive Safe

Captioned as "Chashme Shahi 1949 - Kashmir". Can you help identify the cars in the picture (Packard and Chevy?):

I would say Packard and Ford.

The Madras car is likely to be a Hindustan 14
