Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Bangalore has an ongoing exhibition of old local photographs at Rangoli (Vismaya Gallery), the Metro Art Center till 15th November. Here are two news articles on the subject. Though only a water cart is seen, perhaps some of the photos will show automotive subjects. Maybe someone can visit and take some pictures. Since this is nostalgic, posted here.

Cheers harit

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Sometime back in an issue of Parsiana, someone asked about his fathers Austin and the possibility of tracing out that car. Karlos may remember, it was also "T" registered. This car has a special body, but the focus of the photo was the dog

Not 'T', but it was registered 'X 4904' - an Austin 7 Tourer.

Here is the body of the car, its like Yash's. Maybe he looks into his book when he is back and checks his old number, it will be written in the inner cover if his registration book is original.
And, meet Bomi, thats the name mentioned behind the photo, should be him.

I wonder if this was Bomi in his younger days.

Don't know either, requires forensic examination.

Here is a Morris, picture taken in June 1939 at the Botanical Garden. Any guess where?
The name is Keki Burge L or S ehmi, (Lehmi, Sehmi or whatever).

Bingo!! It is Chowpatty Chambers. Except thst the poor thing is in bad shape now. Almost reminds me of the Citroen DS in another thread here.

Edit: Garwares seem to have moved from 'Motors' to 'Cap markets'. Keeping up with the times.

Why do Buildings look so bad in Mumbai? Understand it's a coastal city. But look at that poor Building! Wasn't it even repaired after the fire?!

Also, why not use Asian Paints Apex Ultima for such Buildings!

Ha ha, Karthik! This is one of the many hundred (or many thousand??) buildings in Mumbai which have been stuck in the infamous 'Rent act'. By this act, in order to protect old tenants, the government has frozen rents at 1940 levels.
Which means, a person living in a 3500 sq.ft. flat will probably be paying Rs. 300/- as monthly rent.
As a result, landlords of these locked properties are unable to carry out any repair and maintenance to these buildings.
Let alone Apex ultima, even a whitewash is not affordable..

And the coastal weather doesn't help things either.

Some amendments to these ridiculous rules are hopefully in the pipeline.

Sorry for going

It could be the Empress Botanical gardens in Pune - though I cannot point out any specifics why.

The lady could have been 'Tehmi' - a common parsi name.

A Parsi owned VW Beetle, probably in Karachi looking at the number plate.
