There is a high likelihood that this was a Nawanagar / Ranjitsinhji car - let me do some more searching.

The circular stone - to hitch ELEPHANTS ?

Just like my opinion on both counts, that is why I mentioned about a royal patron for Lanchesters in that area.
The Mallya car has a similar body style, that came from Gondal, but we all know that cars moved freely between royal families for various reasons including marriage, the Pratapgarh car had also travelled from Nawanagar.

The stone could only be used to tie down elephants, India being more civilised in those days did not have slaves as such, atleast not displayed in a courtyard.

Cheers harit

elephant stables

Travancore and Harit,
Well done, the circular stone was used to tether Elephants, had the photograph been taken with a wider angle we would have seen the elephant stables.. which you can see in the attached picture of Deogarh Mahal, now a heritage hotel.

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

This is a picture clicked soon after Geeta (Roy) and Guru Dutt (spects) got married. Geeta Dutt is seated just in front of Guru Dutt. Actress Geeta Bali, (she is bending on the right fender) wife of Shammi Kapoor (sadly she died too young) and Mohammed Rafi Sahab (extreme right) are also seen. Chetan Anand is also seen (extreme right).
The car BMT looks like a taxi before which they are posing.

No, this was a mansion called "Aaraam Mahal" in Somajiguda, in the lane opposite Lal Bangalow (which once stood tall)

I think I can read the building name as Bakhtawar, an old apartment building in Colaba where many elite names reside, including one Mr. R N Tata.
