If Lawrence and Co exists and they were to ask, I would give them a clear picture.

Harit could this be in Calcutta? If yes then (the old Lawrence & Company funeral parlour at the crossing of Royd Street and AJC Bose Road, has closed down.)
your photo collection is interesting

M. Gandhi getting down from a Limo. Probably NOT in India.
Though grey, but he seems to have a nice crop of hair at this time

This appears to be the staff of Raj Bhavan in Mumbai with the wife of a govenor, either Ali Yavar Jung or Air Chief Marshal I H Latif. Maybe Wasif can help to identify. I would tip on Jung, as the Chevy may be 1965.
Note the Herald on the right.

This is during the first Indo-Pak war of 1947-48 for Kashmir, I think. I'd place it between Oct and Nov 1947 when Indian soldiers were airlifted to Srinagar to fight the enemy that had beaten Hari Singh's state forces, and he asked India for assistance and also finally acceded! The Dakota in the background is what flew them over. Anyway, I don't want to go in to the details of the war.

I may be wrong but I think this pic is of that time. My father was one of the soldiers who went to this battle, so I have a hunch about it, having heard the stories. Where did you get this pic?

Thanks harit. In fact this was also a Maharashtra CM's car - a Chevrolet Chevelle. The beacon has remnants and has been vandalised. I am not sure whether I had posted this car's picture earlier. It was perhaps metallic sea green in colour originally. The white car culture of the politicians was not much prevalent even in the 1960's and 70's.

Rather two Ambassadors there in your picture ! The aftermarket logo at the centre of the front grille was quite a favourite with some Mark II owners. These were tailor made to fit the Mark II grille.

The Monogram is purely decorative.

A family on a trip, I doubt all sat in the car for the journey.
The guy who would have driven the car is probably behind the camera.

It is a piece of ornamentation and nothing else. There is no sign of either HM or Ambassador on the accessory.

I am posting a picture of how a petrol pump looked like in the 1970's. No car is featured here but is'nt it nostalgic to look at such a picture?

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Another picture of our Balilla while it was lying in the garden! Possibly in the later half of the 80's.

Karl, thank you so much for the info, i watched the movie "one two three", at least the parts that mattered. This car is featured quite a lot through the movie. The last few minutes of the movie shows the car upside down, i hope they did not damage it .

Edit: Adding one more picture of the Balilla with the family.

regards,

Srinand.
