Looks like a late-40s Francis Barnett indeed! Atleast from the characteristic flywheel housing. The pinstripes on the tank too seem to be typical FB styling.

Cheers,

In your second last picture there is "Exide" written on the building, and looks like the battery guys from India , was it so.

re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Manish, a small correction - in the days of that picture, Exide India was also part of the "MNC" Exide. So you can't say that the sign was from Exide India - in all probability that particular establishment/shop may have been under Indian ownership as most of the businesses in those parts were, in the 1950s and selling Exide batteries.

Exide as you may be aware was started in late 1800 as Electric Storage Battery co in UK.

In India the brand was owned for a long time by, now infamous, Union Carbide group.

Best Regards & Drive/Ride safe

This is a famous picture, probably by Lala Deen Dayal, also known as Raja Deen Dayal, and therefore these vehicles should be pre 1905.
The second car from left is a Lanchester, similar to the one recently auctioned in UK and shown in the Maharaja thread. This picture has probably also been posted before. If only some of these cars had survived.

Cheers harit

The R-R in the Rampur Garage picture is Chassis 60585 (1907 Barker Limousine Pullman).

Have not seen any recent references, so I am not sure it survives.

The barrel bonnet / round radiator car on the right may be a Delaunay-Belleville.

Believe the picture is from the British Library Collection and may have come from the India collection of a Viceroy

Appears to be a W115 compact Mercedes (LHD). Do you have any picture of the complete car?

Unfortunately no full pictures but here's another one. We had two of them around that time, this one is a 200 (W110), the other one was a (W115) RHD which unfortunately met its end in the Mumbai riots. Now you know why I kept chasing your brown beauty

re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Hi Mole, In the picture of your W110 do I see the good old Mahableshwar sticker which used to be pasted on the left hand corner of the front glass? If I recall a blue picture of the lake, entry fee of rupees two per day? Remember the guy would put four dabs of glue on the corners and stick it on the glass, normally never in straight alignment.By any chance is this picture taken in Mahableshwar? The pattern of the verandah grills is so common to the older houses there.

Yes you are absolutely right! the second picture is Mahableshwar. Isn't it amazing how in the early days even stickers were stuck in such a systematic manner. The railings are cast iron and quite common in early 20 th century buildings in the Mahableshwar-Pune bunglow typology, I encountered the same railing on one of the bungalow projects I am working in the Pune Cantonment area, this photo was taken outside the bungalow in the aaram hotel property.

I have fond memories of this car especially on drives to Mahableshwar which we undertook 2-3 times a year, the air conditioning was superb and was used to cool milk bottles for my baby sister.

re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Suggest change of name of thread from Nostalgic pictures of our family's cars to something more accomodating like Automotive nostalgic pictures including our family's cars :

Here is an overcrowded car, the radiator appears to be unusually wide, maybe the car is pre 1930. Unfortunately too many kids on the car

Cheers harit
