Here's the source: Link.

Just taking a chance with these pics. Have they been posted before? Two are pics featuring M.K. Gandhi while the third one is of Sealdah station:

You should find the white Packard with the Mahatma in the Packard thread. It was Birla's car (according to LIFE).

No need to delete, the picture still fits in nicely.

I never noticed the Lamby. After blowing up this picture, this seems to be a scene not in India, the registration plate is foreign. Maybe this is in Malaysia, Burma?

Here is one more picture of him with army folks in Pune, a friend remembers this stationwagon in Pune.

re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Hi,

A picture from a friends family album. The people in focus are the previous owners of my friends current home, where they stayed with them long after they had sold it to my friends family, hence they find a place in my friends family album! The picture was taken in 1967.

regards,

Srinand.

Lovely! This Pennant looks superb, seems to have been photo'd on some occasion going by the flower garlands etc.
The owners seem as British as the car!
Its got a few add-ons but none too out of place.
The colour seems light grey/black, I know of another Pennant here in the same colour combo, also originally from Bangalore.

I had such a car too, though in cream/blue, had to sell it just a fortnight ago.

The Army in Pune still retains one of these wagons, though dieselised. There used to be another much nicer one (original petrol) which was auctioned a few years back and now in a Pune collection, donning American police car livery.

Hi Stanher,

Yes, the occasion was special, it was the couples' wedding day (no, not anniversary, the actual day of their wedding was the day this picture was taken! ). They were first generation Anglos and hence were as British as the car itself

I am sorry to hear about you selling your car, though i guess you would have had your reasons to. Is it the same one as shown in your garage? She looks lovely.

Here is one more picture taken ten years before the previous picture, when he was a bachelor!

regards,

Srinand.

re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Saw these two photographs in a pictorial on Railways. The picture of Churchgate station is of 1956 and of VT is of 1904. I am unable to decipher those cars.

Wow, and I thought I'm too old at 30 to still be single!

Yes the same. Hopefully in good hands now.

Now I doubt if it was as long as 10 years ago, as this model wasnt yet introduced in 1957. But definitely a couple of years later.

I am told he was 69 and she was about 59 when they were married! Going by these standards, you are good!

I suppose it was an approximation i suppose by my friend, you are the "Standard" man, you know best! That has been the best thing so far in team bhp, nothing escapes the keen, eagle eyed members. There is always someone watching the finer details .

re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Two pictures of a building, in Mumbai as the BEST bus will indicate, and likely to be in Mahim / Prabhadevi area. Maybe one picture was taken on a holiday. Any ideas about location? Maybe Iqbal Veerji can help.

re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

In this procession there is some contraption which has two car like acetylene headlights. Could this be a horse carriage, or some kind of temple vehicle as seen as a Rolls Ghost in Kolkata?
If someone knows more please share.

Amol,

To digress : Any progress with the identification of the bungalow?

The caption of this photo says "ROW-OF-ROLLERS", what does that mean?

One Rolls-Royce = One Roller
Some more Rolls-Royce's = Rollers
But the caption is not quite correct, the first car is a Rolls, the second could be a Chevy or Fiat, maybe then there are more Rolls down the line.

This picture maybe of the 1960's, mixed age vehicles, and the building maybe existing today or redeveloped.

Cheers harit
