Lovely picture - Probably one of the earliest cars in Bombay / India ??

Incidentally - the aforementioned Sir Jamsetjee Manockjee Cursetjee could certainly be the son of Manockjee Cursetjee, whose father Seth Cursetjee Manockjee has been immortalized by his famous statue- the "Khada Parsi" of Byculla.

Dear friends,

The building is the Government Tourist Bungalow in Ooty.I have stayed there a couple of times during my summer vacation in 60's and 70's.

Thanking you,

Recently I borrowed a family album, found these pictures, checked the numbers with Karl (from now onwards a compulsory exercise), and "Bingo". Same car, different coloured roof? Accessories also differ, WIAA badge, spotlights near grill and another near drivers window.
Anyhow, this is the second time I have tangled with R's family cars.
The connection leads to Pune, now to find a link if any.

1st picture posted by R, others from the album.

Fantastic coincidence once again. The car from the Pune albums looks to be new, and Rehaan's picture is possibly later. I never noticed the accessory flashes on the parking lights till now. I think the Pune picture also seems to be shot in the same bungalow where the family still resides.

re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

This time three pictures from Hyderabad.
This would evoke an expectation of the Nizam and his cars, but there were ordinary folks too.
The car appears to be modified at the rear, and what is that moped?
One lady seem to be quite hep, riding a bike, though apparently not a heavy one.

Cheers harit

The Moped is - Lambretta - I am not too sure if it is 38 cc one or a 50 cc one.

The bike could be any one of the 1.5 hp (150cc) Royal Enfields - Ensign/Sherpa/Prince- It looks like a Ensign to me

My two bits

Your range of collection of old vehicle photos - really amazing.

Best Regards & Drive/Ride Safe

'doubt if the moped is a Lambretta 48cc- the frame looks different (a bit angled) plus the engine/gearbox casing looks different too, comparing with pics. of the 48cc:

I suspect its actually a SUVEGA, matches more:

Yes, you're right about the bike being one of the 150cc Enfields!

The car appears to be A 40s Opel Kadett/Olympia. 'wonder if it exists now.

The last 2 pics. seem to be of the same house/person.

- The young lady does appear rather tomboyish for her generation. Apparently her mother (presumably in the last pic.) doesnt mind either!

re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Anyone knows where is Marjori Point? Maybe it was originally Marjorie which was a female name? Maybe near Mumbai?
These gals seem to be trendy, those jeans/pants have enough cloth for two
The boy sitting on the parapet may be a local, not part of the group. But where is this?

According to good ol' google baba, it is in Mahabaleshwar:

Mahabaleshwar: Marjorie Point, Mahabaleshwar Tourist Places to Visit for Scenic

And yes, those bell-bottoms did have lots of room in them, you'd know all the more since you'd have had them in your 'prime' too!

Thanks harit for the pictures. The moped is a Suvega undoubtedly. Shyam already hints and appears to be sure about it.
The bike is a 175 cc Royal Enfield Sherpa- cannot be an Ensign as the side panel below the seat is visible and is undoubtedly Sherpaish!!Maybe the Women's Lib movement in India was taking shape in every nook and cranny.
The car is a Hillman Minx of the 1940's - (Phase III is it?) the later model with the bulbous boot. The fellas have conveniently fitted Fiat taillights on the boot cover. Also the number plate portion (depression almost of the number plate shape) of the Minx appears to have been flattened to hide the curves. The rear windscreen shape matches well with the original. Cannot be a A 40 Devon which had the rear boot cover hinges at the lower part! The bumper guards of the car are missing but the bolt holes are seen. The pictures of these two cars are here (source Motorbase and oldclassiccars.uk images).

I didnt say its an Austin A 40!
I said its a 40s (1940s) Opel Kadett/Olympia....well actually that's a Pre WW2 model. Anyways, looking at the Hillman Minx pic., I would say that this car is not one! Note the bootlid hinges of the Minx are so close to the rear windscreen, right below it. Whereas the APY car has them a bit lower, plus it has the swage or 'lip' line running below the rear windscreen, which is absent in the Hillman! Also the Hillman's rear fenders have a sharp inward curve at the rear, but this car's appear blunt. Only the Opel Kadett/Olympia shares all these features with this car:

Of course, the boot has been modded up much- the stepney wheel has been taken off, a 60s car numberplate light with a separate numberplate has been fitted on.
The rear bumper was probably added on as well, from some other 40s car.
And the tail-lamps dont look Fiat either. Maybe some other 60s car or some 'fancy' lamps from a local bus.

Harit ji, no one mentioned the period, for the girl with moped. It is positively 1966 -68 as this style of salwar and tight kameez was a trend in that time. The Moped must be new arrival in the family yet to be registered with the RTO.

Well it seems to have a number so it already was registered with the RTO.

Yes the girl's attire corresponds to late 60s (also the attires of the small boys, which were before the long hair and long collars of the 70s! )

But did SUVEGA come out in the 60s itself? I thought it first came out in the early/mid 70s?

Sir, as far as I know Suvega's were phased out in late 1967.They were crude, basic in looks and function. In early seventies more stylish mopeds were introduced. They were Hero Majestic, Kinetic Luna, TVS. Amongst alll TVS was more powerful and had minimum breakdown cases.

As per this thread, the Suvega was available in the 70s and even until early 80s. It came in several versions as the Suvega 50, then Samrat, Deluxe etc.:
