That is indeed the Head Office of the State Bank of Hyderabad on Abid Road.

The building was designed by my grand uncle who was the Chief Architect for the Nizam State and later Andhra Pradesh.

It is a magnificient structure

When was this built?

Here is IIT Mumbai, seems they had their own buses. At that time the building appears to have been new. When was this built? These pictures seem to come from a collection of an architect or such who studies non-standard buildings. Fortunately there was a vehicle in the picture, that how I kept the picture.

Cheers harit

Wasif, very interesting to know that it was designed by your grand-uncle! Definitely a matter of pride.
Incidentally, I heard that cricketer Azharuddin had worked here for some time.

His name was M Fayazuddin. if you go to SBH there is a plaque on the wall bythe door with details on the building and his name is on it.

He also designed a number of buildings in Hyderabad like the Salar Jung Museum and the Central Libary and others at OU

The last car he had when he passed was a Mark 2 Amby.

Before that he had some interesting cars which included a Pontiac fastback, a couple of Chevys and 49 Buick Super....these are all I know about there might have been more !

re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

I think State Bank of Hyderabad (SBH) was constructed in late 50's on Abids Road, next to it was Bombay Bakery which was famous meeting point for old car buyers and sellers. Impala cars used to be line up near
Mahboobia school compound until 90's.

Yes Azharuddin was working in SBH in early 80's at the beginning of his
career, he used to reside in small lane in Ramkote.

Mr. Fiyazuddin was a prominent Architect, my uncle knows him, we used
to roam around his beautiful house, where I remember it has big trees, one
of tree has yellow ball type flowers situated between Road No. 10 & 9 on Banjara Hills, actually it back side our building.

Cheers!

re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

letme mention one very unique thing about Fayaz Uncle's garage, it was along the boundry wall of his house abd had a ventilator towards the ceiling to let in light and air.

Normally ventilators in India have that rectangular pre fab concrete "jali" thing but he had a purpose built pre fab concrete jali.

The one he had done had a tree at both ends with a car in the middle and the trees extending their shade over the car. The shape of the car was that of his Pontiac fastback.

All this was in outlines and the openings inside the outlines let in the air and light.

That was a unique custom job which should have been saved. The house got sold and then demolished and this piece of unique automotive art is lost forever.

The corners of this picture are damaged and lots of pin holes can be seen, that is because these pictures were pinned up many times.

Cheers harit
Thanks Harit. The couple in the poster is Bengali cinema's most celebrated, Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen. In addition to ruling the Bengali silver screen for over 2 decades, both of them have also done some Hindi movies.

The movie is the 1962 hit "Bipasha", no connection with the current day star

Here is another lobby card, with the Victoria Memorial in the background. What car is this? Is this one of the local "racing" specials? The proportions of this car are a bit scewed, but the finish looks good. Lets hear if someone remembers this car.

That is no MG under any circumstances, there is a vague disproportionate similarity. See enhanced picture of the front. My guess is a home made special, either for racing or to groove. And no info yet about the movie and the stars

Cheers harit

re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

If you had zoomed and put a pic it would have helped in the first place. The light look like the 115 model Merc and also the body still could be the shell of any mg1600 if you see carefully. The grill has been made but we don't know the drive train could be running OE . Styles very much MG

Cheers
