I would think that the car in the background is a DKW. A few of thim did exist in India

Its too big to be a DKW....definitely an American car....is it an Oldsmobile or maybe a Packard ?

Yes, agree that there werent (m)any real sports/racing cars available back then so people had to improvise with what was available. Who would otherwise think of using Ambys as racing cars, except maybe in Banger racing! :uncontrol
And well, rust was a problem with Heralds even in the UK, but that did not stop them from surviving in large numbers even today there! twas also a problem with more or less every car in India, and the companies that 'made' them here were no better. The problem is that most garages in India had very poor workmanship to be able to tackle the issues arising from rust. Even today a quality restoration on par with international standards is in the case of the minority.

I dont know about the driver I'm afraid. But I do know that the Herald bears a Vizag regn.! :D
And sadly(?) its an early Herald, going by the colour scheme and the dual-bulb parking lights! Again, doubtful if it survived!
In the early days there were no real classifications.Only classification was cc of the engine.Later with FMSCI regulations coming in, there were Stock Indian cars, Indian Cars modified with Indian Parts & then the open class. Yes,imported sports cars were most difficult to get. Very few could afford to race these sports cars & replace worn out parts

I could have sworn I have seen this bungalow somewhere in Bandra cant remember which road? But it will come to me.
Thank you so much for your efforts to put these pictures. Its absolutely Nostalgic. In fact, the pictures are so good and lively that I felt like being there in those days ! Please keep posting more if possible.

Its a locality in the old city around where the Paigah Toumbs are located.....not sure if the palace survives though.
The Paigah family had amazing palaces everywhere in and around Hyderabad.
Happy Diwali, a little bit late, but then I just got this picture, quite apt, timing a bit off though. Raja really loved his bike and his sister. There maybe a Jodhpur connection.

It is a Packard, and that too a Limo. Where is it now? The earlier picture and this picture were taken at the same place and same time, here the Sunbeam is in the background.

In the past days History Channel has been showing American truckers driving in the Himalayas. I like those programs, very entertaining. Here is an older picture also in the mountains, landscape would suggest Himalayas though there are no deep gorges seen.
