Since we are on the topic of Poona, here's a news clipping from a newspaper after partition. What caught my eye is but natural:

This is a picture of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose getting out of a car:

These pictures could be either from Karachi or Delhi. Not sure. Had them stored in my PC for some time:

The rickshaws could be the only source of identification for the second pic.

I clearly recognise this place, "Gandhi Ghat" is in a Kolkata suburb called Barrackpore. Barrackpore - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nice! That looks like a early VW Bus in the background! the car on the right looks like a late 50's or early 60's Opel Rekord?(I'm not sure) And that '57 Chevy is awesome.
Beetle in the second pic

Bombay scenes. Not that great but still worth this thread. Notice the under construction "Air-India" building and those beautiful street lights on Marine drive.

Dear Kiran - AWESOME. Those days are gone, the honesty of purpose of those people also seems to have gone with them. Sad! It's great to see the pictures though.

Best regards,

Superb! In one scene I can see a Buick 8 sedan, black with a lighter roof - by any chance is that a taxi?!

Could be. Looks Black and Yellow to me, with a sun shade? The fare meter is nowhere to be seen.

That roof appears to be cream (to me atleast), so maybe it isnt. Note the grey Herald in the opposite direction ('wish the photo was taken a second later! ), it looks like a mk1 but seems to have the flat metal bumpers on it.

I never saw someone so crazy about Heralds and I am sure will not in this life of mine. Your handle should have been Shyamher rather Stanher.

Great set of pics!
Are those black n white converted to colour?

The Buick 8 sedan appears to be a cream roof and dark green combination to me.

Cannot help but say that these are superb pictures moralfibre. The Ambassadors are in their prime and so are the Fiats/Premiers all moving. In the first picture the Mark II (rear view) to the left side is fitted with venetian blinds on its rear windscreen- an ingenious way to impart privacy and prevent sunrays (no sunfilms or AC's had come to our markets then). There is an Ambassador taxi ahead of it. Sadly for Stanher the Herald is only 25% visible! There is an Austin A40 following the Super Eight.
In the last picture near the CS Terminus (VT) I can spot an Ambassador Mark 3 in its original brownish saffron shade. These were available during the end phase of the Mark 3 and also lasted for a year or two with the Mark 4's. Not a very soothing colour, but its nostalgic to see a car donning this paint.I am sure very very few Ambassadors remain with this original shade.

In the Ballard Estate pictures, I think I see the Jodhpur Lagonda. Is the light coloured car behind it, the ex-Mysore Lancia Dilambda (Prof. Roger Moore ?).

I also remember reading somewhere (maybe the Veteran & Vintage Magazine) that the Dubash Mercedes 38/250 was ex-Cholmondeley. Cheers
You are correct that is jodhpur V12 lagonda in immculate condition owned by my brother Kirit Nath and one after that is another lagonda of my other brother Ghanshyam Nath . which was there in cartier show Black. I have some other pictures of this meet. Subodh Nath

Thanks for the confirmation. It must have been fascinating to have two Lagondas in the family!
